Pioneer Vsx-ax4avi Receiver & Mcacc

Recommended Posts

Just seeking some other experiences/opinions regarding Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration (MCACC) on the Pioneer VSX-AX4AVi Receiver. I tried it and the results were far from great in my room. I know I must be in the minority as I've read heaps of reviews and comments about how great a job it does. I wish I could say I had the same results but I can't. I sooooooo much prefer the sound of the Pioneer VSX-AX4AVi Receiver without MCACC engaged. Having said that I'm sure there are others who would/do like what MCACC does. I do understand that you can manually tweak MCACC after it attempts to automatically calibrate the system to the room. However I prefer MCACC off.

I guess the purpose of this thread is to see if I'm alone in my opinion.

Hi Bizzibee

I have the same avr as you and find MCACC to work a gem.

As you are aware the Pio calibration system using the 9 step calibration system is considered to be the best in the world,

You most probably prefer the MCACC off because the process has a REVERB dampner which depending on your room can result in certain frequencies being "quietened down".

At the end of the day what is important is how it sounds to you. So if MACC turned of is your poison then so be it, :D

Hi Dr Teal,

Thanks for your thoughts. When I have a bit more time I'll have another play with MCACC and see what I can do with the EQ settings manually to suit my tastes.

Thanks again

hey bizzbee......how does compare to your tada9000??

Hi Ken,

As I said in another thread, The Pioneer VSX-AX4AVI Receiver is certainly a very good unit. I can certainly recommend it to anyway wanting a good Receiver with heaps of features. I only paid $1350 as it was a Demo model at HN. However it certainly isn't in the same league as the TA-DA9000ES. I'm mainly using the Pioneer VSX-AX4AVI in the Lounge Room upstairs for watching DTV, playing TV series on DVD, watching the odd movie, and playing the iPod as background music. Perhaps the odd SACD, DVD-Audio and CD. It's mainly for the wife to use when I'm away from home with work. She think the system downstairs is too complicated

I'm using the TA-DA9000ES downstairs in the HT Room for Movies, and listening to music such as SACD, DVD-Audio and CDs. Still loving it! Best Amp I've purchased.

I'm extremely happy with the TA-DA9000ES and the Infinity Kappa Speakers (fronts) mated with it. I have no desire or need to change it. I'll be keeping mine for a long time as well.
