Hi All,

I guess I am just over the whole format war thing, I have resigned myself to purchasing both player formats so I no longer care which is better than which. In the end I just want to watch my movies in high def and if it means supporting both formats to do that then so be it.

I am happy that both formats are releasing great titles so that between them I should be able to get all the titles I want to see. Unlike VHS and Beta I do not think either of the two High Def formats are destined to die any time soon as High Def is more of a niche market and will take a long time for it to be accepted by the masses due mainly to the costs of hardware and titles. Lets face it the average DVD viewer is hardly going to fork out $30.00 for a title when they can get the same title for usually under $12 from K-Mart or JB. Let alone the cost of the High Def players when they can get DVD players for under a hundred.

Just my thoughts, I just do not see the reason to get hot under the collar on the format issue anymore.

Spot on Mav,reading some of the posts in the HD/BD threads i sometimes think theres a bigger war going on in this forum than actually between the format makers.

Mav I've never been one to get too worked up about the formats either and largely kept out of those numerous threads debating the pros and cons of both sides. HD DVD has been fantastic and for $600 I've been able to see movies at substantially higher audiovisual quality than regular DVD. Though ideally it would've been nice if there was just one format the reality is there isn't, and neither side is going to go quietly into that good night in the forseeable future.

And whilst the region coding on Blu-ray by some studios is a definite PITA, it's not a big enough reason to keep me from going dual format now when there are afffordable options being offered by both camps in my view.

Now bring on those HD DVD and Blu-ray rentals Quickflix!

I agree all. format war ? only in the heads of the format pushers and the die hard fanboys. for yoru average person out htere its all really irelevant.

most peopel on here with jsut choose one or the other for their own reasons, and a few will buy into both..

I too cant wait for widespread acceptance of both..it will be the best scenario for those of enthusisatic about this kind of thing.

I'd happily buy a dual format player from Denon or whoever providing it was on par with a dedicated player like the HD-XE1 - Then I wouldn't care what format my movies where on as long as they delivered a quality HD Movie experience (unlike the early BD movies).

This seems to be the way things are going to turn out. Early adopters who bought into these formats bought into them to watch the best PQ available. If you've run out of movies on either format to watch, where else are you going to turn... the other format!

Totally!!

I would buy a HD or BR, if the price wasn't so steep!

Bring the price down and people will come..........Over the format war!!!

Still think SD dvd is still great.

I just simply cant be bothered with it at all for now..

Watched Memoirs of a Geisha last night on my 436 / 1920 and it looked great.

If the studios are not prepared to release both formats .. bring on quality dual format players..

SD DVD and online services are enough hurdles for HD optical media .. why persist in creating more...
