narcan Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I picked up a DTR 8000 (Same as the Homecast HT 5000) for $200 from DSE the other day. It was the last one at the store which had previously been returned for repair. A service had been done on it and apparently everything was fine. I've got it home and done a channel search but it cannot find ABC. My DTV card's are able to pick ABC up fine and all other channels are received and look fine and strong. Tried tuning it manually (Ch 12 226500mhz), it reported a signal strength of 95% but gave no signal quality (I'm in Melbourne CBD) Anyone got any ideas ? Should I return it ? It's weird for the rest of the channels to be fine but ABC to be missing... I don't think it's a reception problem as I haven't had issue with other equipment..
alanh Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 narcan, The signal quality means that it is full of errors. These errors are usually caused by reflected signals which will come from buildings. Are you using a building antenna system? Can you see the Como Building in South Yarra? Have you tried another STB into your antenna socket? Read Get the Best Reception, Melbourne and read the links. Please posts any further posts in the Melbourne Viewers' Forum as there are quite a few posts of poor reception in the Melbourne CBD. AlanH

I previously had my FusionHDTV cards plugged in using the same socket and ABC was fine. It doesn't matter now anyway. I returned it and picked up a Pioneer SH DT510 for the same price from JB Hi Fi. It gives a perfect stable picture on all channels (Including ABC!)
