Nova Phoenix Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I'll be getting my Samsung CRT TV back in less than 2 weeks (finally!! lol). I'm gonna be looking for a good speaker set for it, and I'd like ones that are magnetically shielded, so that the hotspot problem doesn't happen again! So yeah, 5.1 would be nice - my room is kinda small unfortunately. My only requirements besides 5.1 is that they are magnetically shielded and that they can be used on a TV.

Nova Phoenix Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 To a maximum of $500. MAYBE $600 (but doubt it).
kitcho9 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Definitely have a look at Sony HTDDW1500 6.2 Sound System. This is a great system at a budget price. I picked it up for $890 which included a HDMI cable. It has 6 speakers and 2 subwoofers (6.2) and has HDMI 2/1. The two front speakers (massive) are magnetically shielded as is the centre speaker. The receiver it comes with is probably around the $500-600 mark alone...great product for a great price. I think this may be a discontinued stock so you might have to ring around to see who is selling it. Cheers Kitcho9 To a maximum of $500. MAYBE $600 (but doubt it). Woops...we posted at the same time. For $500 you're not going to get much really.....maybe a cheap LG system. Perhaps save your cash and get something a little better, or if this is all you have you should be able to get an average HTIB for this price.
Nova Phoenix Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 I've been thinking. Since my room is small, a 5.1 speaker set might be kind of pointless. I would settle for a 2.1 speaker set until I get a bigger room. Are there any decent, magnetically shielded 2.1 speaker sets out there? (I think 2.1 is the right term. 2 speakers + subwoofer, right?)

Better to do that than buy a HTIB IMO, but perhaps take a look at just getting the stereo pair, add a centre later, then a sub and finally rears down the track. But really it depends on your ability to save for the future items.
