brett134 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Hey guys, I'm contemplating whether to upgrde my current projector (Panasonic AE-900) to the HC-5000 or stick with it till the next few Gen's of 1080p projectors come out.... What i'm basically wondering is if i was going to sell my AE-900 roughly how much would it be worth? I know things like projectors always come down in price but i'm not really too sure of what type of scale. If anyone could give me a rough idea of the type of price point i could sell it for it would help me out a hell of a lot and would help me make a decision whether or not to upgrade just yet or stick with what i've got for a while longer.... The projector is approx 15 months old. It has 600 hours on the lamp in economy mode and i also have new replacement lamp for it. As i said any opinions idea of price pont would be really appreciated and help me out a great deal. Thanks guys. Cheers.
The_Preacher1973 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Probably somewhere in the $1250 to $1750 region depending on how quickly you want to sell it.
ajm1503559545 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 As a rough guide, assuming it's in top condition, you can expect to drop 50% of the value every 12 months. So $3000 purchase would be worth about $1500 after 12 months and $750 after two years. Having said that having the replacement lamp would add a little bit - I'd say roughly $200. So I'd say if you could get about $1700 for it you'd be doing ok. You can always check out ebay to find out what people are actually prepared to pay for something. Like perhaps this.
brett134 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Hey fellas, Yeah thanks for that. Main reason i was asking is because i know my missus will drive me insane if i was to sell it for any less than $1700 as we bought it for $3450 (even though i've explained to her how much things drop in price) and quite honestly it just wouldn't have been worth the hassle of trying to convince her... lol. so yeah that kinda puts me in the clear if i can sell it for $1700 with the replacement lamp included. This is why i said it would help me decide which way to go as if i could only get 1500-1600 i would just stick with it and save it for the extension room we will end up building. I did check out ebay to try and get a guide but didn't really see alot there. Has anyone actually seen the HC5000 compared to the AE-900 (i know Djos has, thanks for all that info you gave me yesterday mate)... If anyone has seen them is there a great deal of difference between the 2 or is it minimal... I would've thought being a 1080p (vs the 720p pana) projector there would've been quite a bit of difference especially on HD-DVD and blu ray material... but some comments i've read have led me to believe there is not alot of difference.... Lastly if i end up selling the projector where would be the best route? Ebay i assume? Thanks again for your help fellas, it really has helped me out towards making a decision on what to do. Cheers.
ajm1503559545 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I put a link in my post to a new AE900 going on ebay for $1999. That'd give you some idea. I'm looking at getting a HC5000 in the next few days. The difference is enormous and not just because of the added resolution. It is in every way a massive step up in performance.
brett134 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 is this projector sold?? Hey Mussty, Nah I've still got it as i haven't advertised it anywhere yet. Been too busy at work this week. Cheers.
