BullockBob Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Just read the manual for the BeyonwizLooks very interesting. The manual is available at their website in the downloads section. happy reading I noticed it a few days ago when i came across their site. I guess the $64 question remains as to when (or if) it will be released. I can't handle a single hd tuner for much longer. Nearly bought the Teac, but there are some still unresolved issues with performance when making two recordings and playback together etc. Don't want the Topfield since there is no LAN connection.
BullockBob Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 no lan is a big negative in my books Well??? Don't leave it there How so?
FlashGordon Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 no lan is a big negative in my books There are long-winded statements....and there are some that don't just seem to have enough words... Yours is the latter! LOL Please expand...... FG

techo Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Well if you need a long winded explanation then. I agree all PVRs no matter what the brand would do well to forget wireless 802 and just employ wired lan. The logic is simple wired 802 (lan) is faster, cheaper and more secure. It does not need the encryption overheads of wireless, reducing processing resources and extra algorithms within the OS. If you require wireless then with wired 802 you just need a wireless bridge fed from the RJ45 port and use the software in your router to secure it.
Javelyn Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I've been following the discussion of the Topfield Tf7000hdpvrt for a while but as it doesn't have LAN capability I'm hanging out a little while longer to see if the Beyonwiz will measure up to my needs. Has anyone any idea what will be the difference between the DP-S1 and the DP-H1. "S" in the model DP-S1 would seem to me to signify "Standard Definition" and the "H" would be "High Definition" but the Beyonwiz website shows the DP-S1 as having High Def capabilities. Mind you I won't be able to hang off too long from not buying the Topfield Tf7000hdpvrt when it is actually available (other than for those stores selling their demo models)!
Zacspeed Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Hi Javelyn, I drew the same conclusion in relation to the meaning of S1 and H1. But from reading the other thread about the Beyonwiz, the S1 most certainly appears to be the HD version that everyone is raving about. From what I understand is that the H1 will become like a slave unit that you can place in other rooms with other TVs around the house. In other words the S1 is the master unit that can send signals to the H1 so in effect its like having another PVR on another TV in a totally seperate room.

Well you would want it to be much cheaper than the master can get expensive if you have a few rooms to do cheers laurie
Dave® Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 S1 is the top of the BW range HD PVR, DVD, MediaGateway etc (and server to any H1s you have) H1 is a cheaper HD STB version with no HDD that can stream files off your S1, network, USB HDDs etc. IIRC it can also record to a network share or USB HDD etc.
Mike Tech Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 FYI I emailed Topfield with the following 3 questions, & was happy to recieve the answers promptly as follows. Any idea on release date yet. I read somewhere that mid March was expected... can we still look fwd to it in the next couple of weeks?? "Yes, the DP-S1 will be available on around mid March at most of hyper stores." Will the unit have the capacity to edit/trim the recordings either now, or with later firmware releases? Will TAP's be possible either now, or with future fw releases? "Both of your asking will be added in near future with later firmware release."
Javelyn Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Thanks Zacspeed & Dave for those answers. And to you to Mike Tech for passing on that information. Streaming through a second unit sounds like a good idea. Got to agree with you Laurie that it would have to be cheaper to make it attractive but the difference sounds like it would probably be the cost of HDD.
drkrac Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 FYII emailed Topfield with the following 3 questions, & was happy to recieve the answers promptly as follows. Sorry Mike, a bit confused here. You e-mailed Topfield about the Beyonwiz??
laurie Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 FYI"Yes, the DP-S1 will be available on around mid March at most of hyper stores." hmmm that sounds like a story I heard a few years ago about an 7000HDPVR cheers laurie
Mike Tech Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Sorry Mike, a bit confused here. You e-mailed Topfield about the Beyonwiz?? Sorry about that, I really did mean Beyonwiz. Have been following the 7000's progress too, and got my wires crossed. The email definately did go to Beyonwiz, and the reply came from there also. hmmm that sounds like a story I heard a few years ago about an 7000HDPVR cheers laurie Did anyone have a 7000 demo unit back then? It is a little re-assuring that somebody is trying a BW now! After all, that's where we are with the 7000, only there is more than 1 demo 7000 out there.
