The Shield

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was just flipping through todays greend guide and noticed that there is no listing for the shield on sunday night. It has been airing at about 10.30/11.00 pm the last few weeks.

Does anyone know of its future on 10? Is it scheduled to change nights, miss a week or been dropped completely. I am sure there are a few other fans that frequent this site.

BTW i was unable to find another listing for it for the remainder of the week.

According to the Australian TV Guide website the Shield is still being shown on Sunday night at 10.30 this week, with this week's episode called "Tapa Boca".

Not 100% sure if this is just for Capital 10 in Canberra though!

Hope it is right for you guys in other states though!

seriously, who actually HAS these bloody ratings boxes? do they give them to monkeys on purpose or is a random sample of aussie audiences actually that stupid?

All the great shows "don't rate" - well maybe its time to shuffle the damned ratings boxes around a little.

couldn't agree more Milorad. Maybe the reason it rated poorly was because it was thrust in a crap timeslot and with absolutely zero advertising. The only reason i realised it was returning a few weeks ago was because the Sunday HUN in Melbourne listed it as the number 1 not to be missed show for the week.

Low and behold 3 weeks later it gets the big A

As much as fans would hate it, it didn't rate well as people don't like it. Saying that, I see no reason why Ten would need to keep taking it off the air at the already late timeslot. Let the viewers watch a series all the way through for once...

This is what I was saying to someone the other day, networks should be forced to show all content they purchase in a certain timeframe. Otherwise, if they don't want to show it, why did the buy it in the first place?

To be fair, advertisers spend a **** load of money based on the results of the ratings, i'm sure they are as accurate as possible.

Bollocks they are.

If they were going to be even vaguely accurate, they'd be administered by an independent body rather than by the networks themselves; they would not exclude a massive slice of the population from them (single parents, single people, people who watch the ABC a lot, etc etc); and most importantly, they would use a STATISTICALLY DECENT sample size.

If the excuse from "a Ten employee" above is actually real, then they're completely deluding themselves. That time slot means NADA to them or the advertisers. And having bought The Shield, they HAVE to show it eventually.

Also, apparently the shield will return on Sunday the 18th

Wouldn't it have been nice if they actually told their audience that after the previous episode? Remember when TV stations used to do that?

I'm so, so glad I "illegally" (ha!) downloaded this season and watched it OVER A YEAR AGO.

Hear, hear!

And as far as advertising goes ... well maybe, just maybe, the viewers of the best shows on TV (like the Wire, the Shield) couldn't give a flying #$^& about phone sex (or as its called these days "friend finding").

The audience probably isn't made up entirely of 10 y/o boys either ... so the consant bombardment of "Dial 'n' pay 1900 555 DWEEB for Paris Hilton" or "Dial 'n' pay 1900 555 SAD for BOOBS" is hardly well targetted advertising!
