MEJ
We have just signed a contract on a new house that has got a dedicated HT. It has a projector (unsure of brand) together with a Bose Lifestyle 48. I know there are a lot of people out there who are not Bose fans, but I figure a system that cost 6k-7k cant be all that bad. Plus the fact it can store 300 odd hours of CD's and is connected to speakers in the living area is a big plus. Over the past 2-3 years I have been putting together my own HT which I more or less completed in the last 6 months. We do not have a dedicated HT room but I always hoped our next house would have one. I have a pioneer 50" plasma, Yamaha RX-V2600, Mission M35i Mains, M32ci Centre, M3i Rears M3as Sub. The loungeroom will need a TV so I am happy for the plasma to go there but the room is very large and I dont think I could put rears in this area. So just after a few opinions on the loungeroom setup. Should I mothball the rears, sub and centre and leave this as a strict 2 channel setup. Or can I still use the centre and sub. with the mains. Any suggestions.
OakenShield1
Most people here will probably tell you to put your "Own" HT system in the HT room. If you don't want to ditch the Bose system, have that as your secondary, and not your primary. I'd save your money and put it elsewhere if you can. Keep the projector in there, and as you say have the plasma in the loungeroom. You can use the full Bose surround if you want in there at least as it won't take up much room! The last thing you want is your secondary HT to sound better than your primary, it will with the Bose. Sounds like a reasonable setup you have now! Would beat the Bose! quijibo
I agree with Oakenshield, half the reason why people by Bose is beacuse of the small size and good looks (supposedly). They are designed to sit in your loungeroom, not in a dark theatre room. The Bose is perfectly suited to your loungeroom problem and the yamaha/mission gear would be heaps better in the HT room. 50mxe20
Agree with all that has been said above. Also the Bose speakers are small and amenable to ceiling or wall mounting and should be easy to mount in the secondary area.
MEJ
Thanks Oakenshield and Deflepper. I was sort of half thinking that way but am not to sure the wife would appreciate me pulling things out and re-wiring in the "dream home". She was not to happy with me drilling holes in the floor at the current house. But HT is my domain and she has got the vacuum aid to play with (just joking love). Assuming the cables for Bose speakers can be used with my current setup then I dont think this would be a problem. I remember reading that the Bose system comes with its own cabling. I just hope it not some proprietary format that can only be used with Bose.
alcoop1503559994
Pretty sure the bose cables are normal + & - type cables with a little spade on the end. Should be easy enough to strip the ends and put banana plugs on if you don't want to run new cables.
OakenShield1
Bose cables are normal I've got some 161's, I'm not telling anyone though... Would she rather have the big speakers in the HT room (Where they belong) or cluttering up her lounge? Good recovery with the vaccuum aid

Good luck with the whole house thing, can be a PITA but it's worth it! I will post some photos. There will only be two. Here is the HT with the Bose setup. Here it is with mine. It will be good though to compare the Bose system to my system in the exact same environment. I will provide some feedback when I complete the test. Now just got a hope the bank lends me the money and then wait for settlement
