pigs_can_fly
Hi all, I recently purchased a samsung lcd tv and digital stb (dtb-h550f). At first the digital reception was quite good and consistent. Then after a while, I would experience periods of drop out, where i would get a dreaded "signal weak" message. The last few days however, I've been unable to receive any digital signal at all. I even tried a hardware reset but now no channels appear when i do an auto scan. I've read some other posts on this forum and other people have experienced problems with the samsung stb, so do you think thats the source of the problem? or could it be my antenna or cabling? my antenna was installed before i moved in, and is strangely inside the roof. The cabling appears to be Belden M 9275 DuoFoil-Braid RG-59 type 75 ohm (if that helps). is there any way of telling whether i need a stronger signal or whether the signal is already too strong? I get perfect analogue reception, but would love to get the same in hd!!! this is really starting to annoy me >< btw, i live in marrickville, sydney (2204). any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers. Timmy Downawell
Do as suggested in the other thread and try another box and see how that fares first. Also check the coax cable from the STB to the antenna jack in case the connections have come loose or something. Could be something really simple like that. I do think you should probably relocate your antenna to (on top of) the roof. You should get a reasonable reception from Marrickville I'd have thought, although it is hilly in places. stahc
surprising just how hilly sydney is when you stop to think about it
digitalj
Just a question for you: Do you have any filters installed? You appear to be about 12km from Artarmon, which would put you in a strong signal area. So just one more question, have you got an attenuator? wahroonga farm
Assuming reception from Sydney: Gore Hill, Willoughby, Artarmon .................TEN ABN SBS TSN.....ATN TCN DVB-H...Polarisation......Bands........Change ANALOGUE.10 ...2 ...28 ...31 .......7 ....9 ..............Horizontal, Bands: 1, 3, 4 DIGITAL.....11 ..12 ..34.........35 ..6 ....8 ....29......Horizontal, Bands: 3, 4 (-B1&2) If u study the above you'll see that Sydney's main transmitters, broadcast analogue and digital in identical frequency /antenna & polarity bands, with the exception of channel 2...... so if you are receiving excellent analogue, there is really no reason why you shoudn't get some sort of digital reception from the same antenna. It does look like a faulty connection to the STB or a faulty STB? Can u try the stb at another premise perhaps? How is the TV and stb connected to the antenna feed? Normally it wud go antenna -> stb -> tv, with a direct video/audio connection stb -> tv. .

A common "failing" in Sydney is to have a STB with the wrong LCNs in the memory.Delete the duplicate LCNs .Use the Favourites option to set up the preferred LCNs.See the pinned topics on reception. pigs_can_fly
thanks for all the quick replies guys! digitalj: I don't think i have any filters installed. I was thinking of getting an attenuator to try and weaken the signal considering i live in a pretty good reception area, and also since my cable is pretty basic so many the digital signal is overloading it or something? i'm not really sure... wahroonga farm: I'll see if i can test it elsewhere, because i have a sneaky suspicion that it is the stb. i have it connected antenna>stb>tv via component cables. sydne2218: Yeh originally I set up the right channels in the favourites option. BUt i was still getting weak signals, so i did a factory reset of the stb and now i can't scan any channels at all, UHF or VHF.
