Is it just in Canberra that Prime try to pass off a 576p channel as "high definition", or does Seven do this in the other cities also? Seriously Prime, how hard can it be to run at proper HD?

CRIME PRIME pass off 576p as HD everywhere and $even do in the capitals and Queensland. PRIME has the capacity to do full 1080i which is discussed here. PRIME HD was 1080i for a few days last month before switching back to 576p. CRIME PRIME have the capacity to do proper HD, they can but they wont. And they can tell $even where to shove their 576p HD ED shytevision like Southern Cross Tassie has but wont. End result, we're stuck with 576p HD ED shytevision.

You are correct that from Thursday morning 25th until Monday afternoon 29th

January we did indeed put 1080i HD to air in NSW & Gold Coast (not VIC).

This was caused by an operational error and was corrected on Monday 29

January.

As far as us changing to 1080i, it remains a company policy decision to

continue with 576p

WTF???! This is just stupid. I'm just dumbfounded after reading that thread. :P:blink::D

In the commercial world, they have agreements. I would assume that Prime's agreement to show Seven HD would be to show Prime HD in 576p otherwise Seven will (unless for 'faults') cancel the agreement etc.

I cant see that it should worry seven if prime upconverted to 1080i except that it shows seven in a bad light. Having said that why would Prime agree to that condition it shouldnt be a deal breaker and seven would desire the payments from Prime for the signal/ programming. maybe a reason to enforce a greater local programming requirement for country stations this could be done through legislation giving 2 years notice.

PRIME would make a total mockery out of 7 HD ED if they did 1080i, thats probably why.

Prime and Seven are both broadcast in some areas (Gold Coast, Central Coast). Also, Prime is receivable from Wollongong in Sydney.

As such, Seven may be worried about loosing viewers to Prime, which in-turn, could reduce advertiser revenue, even with Prime paying them.

there are large areas of sydney, even greater sydney, that are not able to receive prime.
