Souwalker
Question about burn in. I am about to get the Pio 507. I was told that burn in is not much an issue now as most of the channel's icon are translucent, even most of foxtel. Probel I noticed last night while watching the fox sport channels, the icon is not translucent..it's full on. Also I watch lost of soccer and at the top left corner of the screen, the time played and the scores are constantly left on and is not translucent. Please tell me I have nothing to worry about? Many Thanks Pat
50mxe20
I responded to your question here. No need to double post. The above was the correct place to ask the question.
Souwalker
Sorry about that. It's just that this Saturday I am going to pull the trigger and I'd like to know as much as I can before Saturday. BTW, your link was the 'Too many connection Error' thread. angryofmayfair
I think you are being a bit hard on the guy - he asked in a thread that wasn't specific to burn in - this one is far more noticable to casual readers like me... Back to the topic - there is a big difference between image retention and burn in - and all plasmas are susceptible to both under the wrong circumstances. IR is a fairly normal after effect from watching programs with staic logos etc for a few hours - it should clear up with normal use . Screen burn is permanent and will not clear up. There does not seem to be an absolute answer as to what period of time will cause IR and what extra time is needed for it to become SB. I think that it is wise to be very careful using a plasma for displying static images for any extended time. If you set it up correctly (take it out of torch mode) and keep the static image stuff for less than (say) a few hours then you are probably going to be OK. NOTE - there is no warranty cover for screen burn - all the plasma manufacturers warn about it and specifically exclude it from warranty cover so that implies that it exists and can be an issue... Some plasma are more prone to it than others - Pioneer's 6th gen seems to have been very prone whereas the latest 7th gen seem much better. My 3yr old Hitachi has never had any sign of IR or SB - it seems that ALIS panels are good in this respect. FWIW, I play xBox 360 on my Pioneer 507 but I limit it to around 2hrs use - by then I have had enough anyway! So far I have not seen any IR or SB but I am very careful with it and my contrast and brightness settings are quite low, especially in 'game' mode - not that the picture looks bad, it's totally stunning even with my conservative settings.... Also we watched just about every hour of ch9 cricket this season on the 507 and there is no sign of any IR/SB from the bright white ch9 logo so I don't think you need to be concerned too much about TV logos BUT I would be careful about games use... Doug1503559538
If burn-in was a major problem in Plasma's then this is the 1st place you would here about it - we have a very pedantic AV crowd here ! Do a search for burn-in , all I can find is people speculating on it and not really any problematic cases.

The thread Pinned: Plasma burn in? wasn't the relevant thread?? There must be something wrong with me. I think my objection was to asking the same question twice. I was not nasty about it, just making a suggestion and pointing out that making duplicate postings of the same thing is bad form. I appreciate the other comments you have made as they are a concern for me too. BUT I think they should have been posted in the Pinned: Plasma burn in? thread not here. One of the things many people hate is multiple threads on the same topic. It is just poor forum etiquette.
