Hi everyone

I have a chance at getting a Toppy 5000 for about $400 - second-hand, 120 Gig. I've heard of the 160Gig Masterpiece being obtained for around the high $500's..........

$400 is a good price range for me - high 5's is not.

Decent price or not worth is due to use and lack of warranty. How much are people getting the non-Masterpiece one new for?

Thanks

Chris

Tis a good price for a top notch PVR. You'd have to be pretty lucky to find one for less else where. You can always up the drive size in a year or so if you want ($100 buys you a 300Gb drive). Check out the AQA (pinned) for some TIPs to get you started.

its worth noting that the 5000PVRT (silver classic) uses the same remote control as the new 7000HD PVRT -

It's a completely different remote control. But I assume you meant the 7000 and classic silver 5000 use the same code?

Howerver, there are taps available which will disable the IR commands on the 5000

There's also a tap available which allows your 5000, BP or MP to use a different code (which requires a BP/MP remote control set to the same code).

I'm assuming that people looking for a cheap second hand Toppy are not in the market for the $1200+ HD version  So probably not an issue this time around.
