Different Options For 2 Tuners

Recommended Posts

been looking at the TH-42PA60A but since it dosen't have a digital tuner and I will want to watch and record 2 different channels at the same time I was thinking of buying either a Topfield TF 5000 or a Panasonic DMR-EX85. If I buy the DMR-EX85 I would need a SD box which I allready have, however I also want to record DVD's which the Topfield can't do. As the TV has only one HDMI connection I am not sure which way to go.

Got a quote on the TH-42PA60A with 5 year warranty, HDMI cable, Topfield, and the Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD Recorder for $2,860.

Sounds like an unbeatable combo. You'll find 90% of you viewing is via the Toppy. 'Sending' the odd program to the DMR for burning should be a piece of cake. Mucking around with half analogue half digital setups (aka DVDR & STB) is something you'll regret after a few weeks of use I suspect.

Thanks for that Peter, is having just the one HDMI a problem,I will have DVD, set top box and Dolby surround amp
Not really, there are cheap HDMI 'splitter/switches' that you can buy if you need to. Keep in mind that HDMI is a pretty marginal increase in PQ over say component or RGB (Say 5%). So its by no means critical to have every thing via a HDMI cable. esp if its a SD DVD your buying.
