SimonB1503560073
OMG, am I the only one that thinks 60 Minutes has lost the plot? They're promoting an interview with that ex-Qantas Flight Attendant that, allegedly, had it off with whatsisname in the loo at 30,000 feet.... WHO CARES!!!! What on earth are they thinking? Am I the only one who remembers the days when 60 Minutes was actually an investigative issues program? Well, they've lost me as a viewer, for one. Simon.... MELso
Has it actually ventured out of the sewer of tabloid TV in the last 10 years?
AndrewW
Has it actually ventured out of the sewer of tabloid TV in the last 10 years? 60 minutes is just another entrant in the TT/ACA struggle for the lowest common denominator. If you want real current affairs you need to head to the ABC. Andrew.

AndrewW
I was just thinking when I saw the ads for this week's show that it should be renamed to A Current Affair: Sunday Edition Andrew.
niro
You will find most of todays media doesnt cover any real news. There so much going on in world that is important that you will never hear about. Channel 7,8,10 are total rubbish. Their most important news is about someone getting ripped of by 10 bucks at local supermarket. Todays media isnt really free speach its controlled by man upstairs. If he doesnt want that story air it want happen. We are becoming like america who main media is owned by companies like G.E who also make things like american military stuff. When private company and government have complete control of media that is when we loose right to hear real news. You prob find best news is actually sbs world news and etc. They are unbiased and really gives you better idea on what happening around world. Not just what celebs favourit diet is. People really dont have any idea of what happening around them. They think they are well informed cause they watch channel 9 news and acurrent affair.. Its really sad that we think everthing that little box infront of us is the complete truth and its all we need to know.. People really need wake up. wfdTamar
I'm not so sure about the ABC either. Four Corners has really dropped in quality over the last few years. Lots of foreign shows in it. SBS has some ok stuff, but there is no real investigative journalism in main stream Australian media (not sure if there is anywhere).
Neon Kitten
I'm not so sure about the ABC either. Four Corners has really dropped in quality over the last few years. Lots of foreign shows in it. Blame the massive drop in government funding for that. At least the programs they source from overseas are of high quality. SBS has some ok stuff, but there is no real investigative journalism in main stream Australian media (not sure if there is anywhere). Four Corners still delivers the goods when it matters - like they did late last year with the investigative story on dangerous religious nutbars The Exclusive Brethren. Santa1503559644
Well, y'all know my position on 60 Minutes! Its not like I haven't made it clear time and again. The Howard demographic. Its long been a good way of determining quickly whether someone can think independently ... ask them what they think is "serious journalism". If they answer "60 Minutes", you can save your breath - there's no pointing engaging in a serious conversation. Its dumbed down, sexed up tripe for the lowest common. Wouldn't watch it for quits. (BTW: Who could seriously consider it even comparable to 4 Corners, when it includes thinly veiled advertorials, vanity pieces for the "reporters" and a bread & circuses treatment of the odd "serious" issue it pretends to tackle. All washed down with the most nauseous over-inflated pomposity in the industry!)
pgdownload
Actually there's a simpler explanation in this case. As well as Letterman and a few other shows, Nine has lost the rights to any US 60 minutes content to channel 10 (usually at least one segment each week sources from here). As such they suddenly have about 20 minutes of airtime they need to fill from other sources. Simpler stories grabbed out of the redoutable ACA might be the go? sulimo
Has it actually ventured out of the sewer of tabloid TV in the last 10 years? No idea. I haven't been brave enough to watch for about that long. Sunday is about the only decent show of this sort that Nein has done. And even that's gone down the gurgler with the latest revamp. Guest EZYHD
Best to record 60M and playback the bits you like, probably all of 10 minutes.
aztec
Best to record 60M and playback the bits you like, probably all of 10 minutes. That would be the ads I can honestly say I have never watched 60 Minutes, I see the bit at the beginning where they smugly introduce themselves and quickly rush off to the bathroom to vomit. pepsiscrap
My dad has watched 60 Minutes for as long as I can remember (I am mid 20s) and I never thought of it as serious journalism growing up. Even as a relatively naive teenager I fund their reports were often extremely biased or blatantly wrong and that was when they had an actual "story" instead of just nterviewing a celebrity and dressing it up as current affairs. 60 Minutes is just ACA but fancied up slightly. Neon Kitten
Actually there's a simpler explanation in this case. As well as Letterman and a few other shows, Nine has lost the rights to any US 60 minutes content to channel 10 (usually at least one segment each week sources from here). Perhaps, but them interviewing the airline slapper was pretty much on par with the level of journalistic integrity they've shown for the past few years. BribieG
60 minutes is one of those shows I used to watch religiously when they had Richard Carlton, Jana Went, etc. Then I sort of forgot about it, and haven't watched it for years. It reminds me of a time a few years ago when it suddenly occurred to me ... hey, is that Saturday Night Live still on? haven't watched it for yonks ... No, it's actually finished. Oh, ok, didn't realise. No great loss. I think for me, 60 minutes is going to be a bit like that.

BribieG
All washed down with the most nauseous over-inflated pomposity in the industry!) Actually I believe the most pompous show is Sunday - even more so when Jim Whaley was the announcer. First the opening theme that is a cross between the theme of Rumpole of the Bailey and some sort of national Anthem. Then the pompous introduction ..... "Trouble in Paradise" "Where to now for the people of Raraongamuatoto"... our cover story this week on SUUUUNNNNDAAAY - I'm Jim WHAAAALLLLEEEEY - (Jim appears to sink deep into meditation for 3 seconds). Eventually when the whole self important slow moving juggernaut starts to gather momentum ..... Jim's eyes buried deep in a furrowed brow of mighty statesmanlike dignity (is he still awake?). "And later, what is happening to the heirarchy of the archdiocese? Some parishioners point the finger, but not all is what it seems ... but first... today on Sunday.... the news headlines for this Sunday the 5th of March .... blah blah blah ...." Then the enormously fat political commentator dude, and they would show a SIDE view of his monstrous form for God's Sake.....!!!! After about 9 minutes of this glacial (not to mention stuffed-shirt) crap I would usually give up and watch some cartoons.
Santa1503559644
Actually I believe the most pompous show is Sunday - <Snip parody of Sunday> OK, Sunday was a little more pompous, but actually had (for Nein) the quality. Whereas 60 Minutes simply never had the quality ... just the self-inflated ego. At best it was "4 Corners for Howard Voters". There are many people who did believe 60 Minutes was quality journalism, but they are the (surprisingly large) part of the population who have always chosen to avoid the ABC. NB: 60 Minutes did occasionally air stories of a higher quality, but their number and the topics were very limited, chosen to press buttons with the audience and achieve "outcries" and always vetted by the Fatman himself.
