Hi Guys

I just bought a TF6000PVRt and am having issues with the wireless.

I have set it up to match my home network (wep/ascii/infrastructure mode..etc) and have the following issue.

The first night i set it up and it didn't work..i just turned it off and went to bed.

The next morning i thought..what the heck, i'll see if I can ping it..and I could..and it worked all day. I could run the web interface, upload files..etc.

Last night, it "stopped" working for some reason. The two things I did was plug in a usb cable and ran altair and also installed the "UK OZ TAP Surfer" Tap. i wouldn't have thought either of them would stop the wireless working.

So as of this morning, my wireless it not working again.

I don't know if it's something i did, a wireless issue or a faulty unit issue.

Any thoughts ?

You're much better off joining up to the Topfield Australia forum : http://www.topfield-australia.com.au/phpbb2/ and asking the same question there.

There's already plenty of info there on setting up wireless on the 6000.

Hi Cookster,

Are you able to reset the PVR (ie: roll back those two changes you made)?

I haven't totally ruled out getting a 5000PVRt/6000PVRt. Let us know how you go!

Ray.

hi guys

i have reviewed the posts in the topfield forum and looked at the suggestions. I'm comfortable i've covered that off

I have also "more or less" rolled back the 2 changes i did last night.

(ie one was just unplugging the USB and the other was stopping a TAP)

neither has made a diff.

FYI, i've setup a lot of networks and wireless stuff at home and work, so i think that side of it is ok. (of course it wouldn't be the first time i've made a mistake either)

thanks for your advice

ok...i made no changes..and guess what...today the wireless is working. :D

i have read the other forums, and I really think that there is some strange problem with the wireless setup on the Toppy.

Update...this morning, wireless not working

don't know if it's a range issue. no other device I have has any problems at that range or further. it's a bit hard for me to move it around to find out unfortunately. wonder if I could get a bigger antenna.

Mate, call Topfield - that's what they're there for...

Hey Cookster670

I'll try to set my (TF6000PVR) wireless in the next couple of days & let you know accordingly.

thanks mate...will be interested to hear the results.

i'm starting to think it's a range issue. although my other wireless devices don't have an issue at that range...(10-15 metres through 2 internal plaster walls), because it's so intermittent range issues make sense.

by the way...it hasn't worked all weekend, but as of right now it IS working.

my guess at this stage is that the toppy receiver isn't as strong as other devices..plus it's got a pretty short stuby antenna.

when I get a chance i'm going to move my hub closer to the unit to see if it makes a diff..and if it does, invest in one those larger, higher gain antennas.

Hey Cookster670

I've just set up my wireless. The wording in the booklet is crap.

I've assigned myself a static IP address on the PVR - OK

Configured WEP on the PVR - OK

Configured SSID on the PVR - OK

Ch11 - OK

Configured the MAC on my wireless AP - OK

Getting 99% Quality & 50% Level strength.

My PVR is about 14metres away from my AP.

My IP, Subnet mask & default gateway are all correct.

But can't seem to ping the PVR.

I need to look into it a bit further & check out some posts on the Topfield website.

Will keep you posted.

thanks rvec.

you are doing better than me. When mine works, i get a 99% quality and 17-25% level strength. Encryption type is WEP

when mine doesn't work, i get 82% quality and 0 strength. the encryption type is unknown

so my guess is it's a range issue. ? i just hopped on ebay and bought a 7dbi wireless anteanna for my router to see if that fixes the problem. It was only $25 shipped so figured it was worth a try. Not sure if it's a dodgy antenna at that price though :D

re your issue...could your firewall be stopping the pings ? have you got mac filtering on your router ?

oh..by the way. wireless was working all day yesterday...but not this morning

Let me know, how you go with the new antenna

New antenna...no difference. As I mentioned before though..it's a cheap antenna, so it may not have helped anyway

Re encryption. I'm using WEP.

it basically works about half the time. Once it's connected, it stays connected...until i turn the unit off.

So have you rung Topfield yet?

nah..i haven't yet. i have logged a call via their website, but not gone so far as to call them. to be certain, i really need to move my router closer to the unit to make sure it's a range issue or not. If it is then, bad luck to me i guess, otherwise it could be a Topfield issue or faulty unit.
