I've had a PVR-X10 for almost 2 years now - recently when I've recorded channel ten, the recordings seem to start out fine and then as I watch it the audio starts crackling and goes out of sync with the video, I can fix the problem by skipping forward and then straight back to where I was, but after a minute or so the same problem will occur.

I know that ten have recently made some changes regarding their bitrates etc - could this be the reason this is happening?

Thanks.

2 possibilities. We had similar issues. Channel 10 in Perth is using "Variable bitrate encoding" out of their mux (shows up on the PVR-X10 (modified firmware) stream analyser) and the other channels are using "Constant bitrate encoding"... The PVR-X10 tends to not like recording any bitrates over around 6Mbit/s (which I've found by reading and doing practical tests!). With variable bitrate - everytime some fast movement comes into channel 10's transmission - the X10 will glitch and sometimes it will not resync properly.

Alternatively, as I posted elsewhere - if you know a qualified service technician - get them to check http://www.rjmb.net/pvr-x10/index.htm for the details of what I did. Fixes the unit beautifully. If you need to replace the hard disk with a non-exact replacement then check the links, you will need to get some modified firmware.

We had a unit for 3 years and then it started playing up with wierd things going on. Very annoying. After repair, the unit seems flawless, but probably getting channel 10 to change from VBR to CBR is almost impossible. (Channel 10 Perth technical staff - feel free to contact me!)

Hope you sort this one out.
