Hello,

I was about to buy the Hitachi DV-DS163A. I was planning to purchase it with the Hitachi 42PD9500TA plasma.

The Hitachi 42PD9500TA does not come with a built in HD tuner so I was considering purchasing the Teac HD-B820 High Definition Digital Box.

I was about to purchase and was going through the cables I would need with the sales person when I was told that I would not be able to record in digital using this DVD recorder. It was explained to me that the DVD recorder would not be able to recognise the signal so I would only be able to record in analogue?

Is this true?

If it is true is this the case with all DVD recorders? What would happen if the TV had a built in HD tuner, for instance the Hitachi 42PD9600DTA?

Otherwise to record in digital do I need a DVD recorder with a set top box included in it. For instance the Panasonic DMR-EX75?

How would the DMR-EX75 work with the Hitachi slighly different HD resolution (ALIS technology I think its called)

Thanks.
