I never experience this with any of my discs on either the XA1 or the E1, but I know this was reported a few times over on AVS. Haven't heard it mentioned for a while.

Dumb question, you are using 2.0 right?

When I purchased It I was told it was upgraded already. How do I find out?

Go into the setup menu, select maintenance then up date and it will list a string of numbers. In that it should say 2.0. If you aren't sure just list em here. The E1 has different firmware so I can't post what it should look like but will recognise the string from my XA1 days

I've noticed something like this on a couple of discs, although in my case it sort of jumps forward (or maybe you could call it FFWD very fast). I think this might be due to surface contamination or some such, because I cleaned the discs in question and it didn't do it again. My guess is that if the laser has issues reading, it tries to skip forward until it can read everything okay.

I used to get the occasional problem with brand new DVDs on my DVD player, even though the disc surface looked spotless. In this case I think maybe the disc can get a thin transparent film on it which might affect the laser pickup during manufacture, because after washing with a mild detergent the problem used to vanish.

I talked to a friend who has the same machine and he told me it has to do with the buffering.Apparentley with the hd-dvd/blu-ray there are some movies it will do it to.The firmware upgrade on these machines were also meant to help the buffering.
