spf1977
Hi, I am thinking of purchasing this product. Also looking at purchasing the Hitachi 42PD9500TA. Was marked in JB Hi Fi for $576 but was offered $520. Still think this is a bit high considering I am also buying a plasma (and possibly cables & HD Box). I get the feeling that I have really worked the guy down on the Plasma so he is trying to get some mark up back on the DVD recorder. What is a good price? I am thinking nothing over $480 or is that pushing it a bit. Cheers.

Hi, Have a look at this thread... sounds like $549 less $50 discount might be possible for the 250GB version. http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=39305 Anyone have any comments on it? Might look into it myself... st3v3
st3v3
sounds like $549 less $50 discount might be possible for the 250GB version.st3v3 Hi again, Just checked my local price... is $579 for the 160GB and $669 for the 250GB. I am over 2000km from Perth though, so the freight and markups are higher here... To compare, local pricing on the NEC or LG (RH-1888) 160GB models is around $599-649. st3v3

Way2go
Can an owner of a DV-DS163A (or the 250Gb version) tell me if the HDD and DVDR record in 16:9 if the input signal (e.g. from an HD STB or Foxtel STB) is received in this format? I assume it to be the case, but want to be sure before spending my money. I know that if recording from the internal tuner you will only get 4:3 as the tuner is analogue, but I will be recording from either of the above STBs and as they carry 16:9 signals I want to make sure that I will be able to record what I see! If 16:9 recording is not an issue it will save me a few hundred $ to get this unit over the Panasonic EX75 as I don't really need to have a second digital tuner in the system. Digital Dave
Hi there guys, Im a bit of a newbie and was looking at getting the hitachi as well as it was offered for $499. Thing is im not sure how it all hooks up. I HAVE a Samsung PS42D7HDX plasma, which as a inbuilt HD tuner but no output. So what i want to confirm is that this product had a inbuilt tuner which would be suitable for dispaly on my panel?
Way2go
The Hitachi only has an analogue tuner - no digital, neither SD nor HD. So you can still record from the inbuilt tuner in the unit, but only view it in 4:3. This is the main reason why I am still seriously looking at the Panasonic EX75 instead - it has an inbuilt SD tuner, and I don't see the point in buying something now that I already know will have half it's usefulness (i.e. the analogue tuner) made redundant in the near future.
