Yamaha Rx-vxxxx ?

Word is trickling down (don’t you just love that metaphor) about the Yamaha RX-VXXXX which will replace the RX-V2700. Apparently it will have HDMI 1.3 and consequently decode Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS HD and whatever else comes out of the new formats. Release will be October/November and probably be around the $3000 mark. I’m not sure if I’m too excited by this although the experts tell me the new HD audio formats are stunning. I think I’m stunned enough as it is.

hope it does come true. will be great to see more avrs with this kind of ability..

only a matter of time really ... I'm waiting for HD audio, built-in wireless and media streaming ability before upgrading my 2500 ..... I'm sure it can last another 24 months or so ....

The only thing I am dissapointed the 2700 doesn't have which I new before I bought it was the ability to web into it via a web page. The Denon 4306 has this but I couldn't justify the extra $1k.

I am sure it will come along with the built in wireless.

Wait for the Denon 4308 for this then, it will fill most of your requirements.

Why wait for the Denon? They have been slowly upping the prices on their replacements units the last couple of years. The Yamaha will offer the same functionality at about a grand cheaper, as is consistent with the 2700/4306 at the moment.

it seems to be a bit of a trend of late with the subsequent model price hikes. even the 2700 went up in price from the 2600 didnt it ?

hope the new model hks arent pricier too.

price stayed the same from 2600 to 2700

as for the 4306 yes there is a price difference but there is a complete different sound and its also got a couple extra features ie equaliser can be set for every speaker

No it didn't. There is a $200 difference. The 2600 was $2299 RRP and the 2700 is $2499 RRP.

And to be honest the "street" price between the two is about $200 as well with the 2600 going for about $1800 and the 2700 about the $2K mark.

To be honest I'm probably going to sit out even the first gen of the HDMI 1.3 receivers. I'm extremely happy with my Yamaha 2600 but any replacement not only has to have the new bells and whistles but also advance my sonic experience in all modes.

not in perth it wasnt, prices stayed the same

Same on the RXV2700.

i should probably clarify it as an 9 band graphic equaliser, which i havent seen on a 2700

At the last visit we were told of a RXV2700 replacement not available until late in the year, and no details that it had a wifi connection etc.

Only the RXV659 and a few other models due in March/ April.

659 has finished and only stock available is what shops have on hand, the replacement is a rxv661. Theres also another model coming which will be the rxv771 i think, will be about the $1700 mark with hdmi up convert 100 watt per channel, powered zone 2 etc

True, the Yamaha is 7-band (with the sub being 9).

The RXV2700 is definitely NOT being superceded unti the end of this year (prob late Oct/Nov). Its probably their biggest seller at the moment.
