Why is there so much rubbish being posted in this section. It used be a good resource for emerging news, new releases, technical questions etc regarding HD DVD BLU RAY & Consoles.

Now all it seems is repost after repost, silly bickering between fanboys of either format and ridiculous polls.

Do moderators monitor this site?

Also is it necessary to have so many 'sticky's' ? There is only 8 active topics on the front page because of so many stickies.

Anyway just my point of view. I know I dont have to read this section, however I am interested to read about HD DVD etc but its getting painful sifting through all the crap.

Feel free to add your opinions.

Well, since you ask for opinions...

I think one of the reasons for the start of the rot was the fanaticism of some people, combined with the antics of Sony et al themselves.

Its a bit rich to expect everyone to "sit down and behave" when the industry titans are acting like school kids!

There are some parallels to a certain long-running Topfield thread or two, where peoples' nerves are getting raw with the nonsensical banter ... but the big players are bringing in on themselves with ridiculous statements and bullshit.

Remember, many people believe its better to have free speech and the ability to ignore what you dont like, than to go down the path of censorship.

{All that said, if anyone didn't pick up on the "subtelty" - my silly poll here (in response to the suite of Mello polls) was having a go at this whole situation... well, that and Mel's post count boosting activities .}

How about a list of what you consider to be rubish threads (based on the original post - the poster can't be held responsible for hyjacking) and what you consider to be wasting space?

note: not having a go, just asking for clarification. I agree to a certain extent ie the shear number of threads started last week on the exact same topic.

I have to agree with this sentiment. The point is that HD material, whether it be BD, or HD-DVD makes for wonderful viewing, and something that should be celebrated and not fought about

The constant bickering imo is getting very boring and seems to take over the whole subject.

totally agree with this topic, and many of the posts thus far.

do the mods moderate anything on this forum? are there any active mods?

you can see on forums like whirlpool, which is very moderated (trolling posts removed, off-topic posts removed, threads moved to correct sub-forum, threads merged etc) that the mods are very active (perhaps it only obvious because the forum system tracks these changes for the users to see)

whirlpool is perhaps over-moderated, but personally I think they do a good job.

im pretty sick of the **** fights on this forum (not just this sub-forum), which seem to errupt in a cyclical fashion, and then calm down a bit... but recently, its been pretty bad. I do my best to ignore them, but sometimes enough is enough.

I personally wouldnt mind seeing a bit more of a pro-active effort made by the mods.

The sad fact is you almost drown in a tidal wave of crap posts in attempt to "cross-refernce" to previous posts. Its got to the point where its easier to repeat yourself in a number of threads than attempt to challenge that tidal wave.

I agree 100% too. I used to frequent this forum daily, as recently as January. I don't bother any more, I can't be bothered wading through more "ABC Company says HD DVD is going to win the war" or "XYZ says HD DVD sucks".

If you want valuable participation, grow up. If you don't, carry on as you are.

But see this is the problem.

If the BD camp want to keep posting the Sony FUD and declarations of the 'BD wins the war', and nobody takes the time to dispel the myths, then people are going to start believing what they read.

And that means Sony wins.

And the consumer loses.

This was the very reason why when I initially raised the need for HD sub forums that I requested a separate sub forum for HD-DVD and another for Blu-Ray. There is no way that the two formats can exist in one forum without the conflicts emerging from the equally adamant fanbois of both camps. I actually think Dazs site format wins hands down and seems to have, so far, avoided the BS we have been seeing here lately.

I don't think it's that bad, some people need to lighten up a little, but apart from that some people just like to argue, and it's nice to have something genuine to argue about...

Actually I think it is just a natural progression of debate when given the loose restraints on expression placed upon us.

The problem is we have run out of issues to argue the toss over and that has probably promoted Momaw to put out a clear guide to those that are new to HD disc tech. We have had to thrash it out for ourselves and inevitably we get personal at times, it is just the natural process of learning so I don't think we have hit rock bottom with nowhere to go.......there is always 'up'.

tbh, and drawing on what a few others have said in various threads, I think a lot of the forum is made up of people trying to grab the latest news, but as was said most people will also have seen it if they are interested. Other parts of the forum appear to be people who have just decided they are BluRay fans or HD-DVD fans and want to shout it out to everyone.

Really is HD DVD and Blu Ray sufficiently mature to warrant a sub forum of its own? Movie reviews and equipment reviews can still go in the reviews section, general discussion about setups can still fit in HT, or if people just want to give the latest information or discuss one or the other then have three active threads. Blu Ray only, HD DVD only and a thread with comparisons where necessary, but make sure it is moderated?

I just think that the two can exist in other forums, it is sufficiently big enough yet to warrant its own sub forum, and people are just trying to fill up the forum (happens a lot on the internet) with every piece or article they find. Who cares if SMH thinks something, what is their qualification?

Personally I would rate this forum as rather pro HD DVD (based on the happy number HD DVD owners ) at the moment.

I think the OP was referring more to your Spak Filler type poll than the couple of polls I have put up in the last couple of days Santa

The Poll Poll was to illustrate that there have been numerous polls (well ok 2) gauging which format was more popular but still people manage to misread, not read, or simply cant read the questions or the answers.

Most people understood the questions and I thank everyone who contributed to the polls..I found the results helpful

I also think the OP is referring to the stupid adolescent behaviour that has been rampant on here of late.

Put a bunch of kids in a room and your going to get chalkmarks on the walls
