Panasonic 42" 500a Plasma + Hdmi

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I have a 42" 500A plasma, and a philips DVP5900 dvd player connected via HDMI.

Video is all good, but ever since I got the TV, hdmi audio has not worked. In digital mode on the tv all I get is high pitched hissing/popping, on analogue nothing. Hasnt bothered me really but I decided to investigate it further.

Not having anything else HDMI capable I cannot test this, so does anyone have a HDMI dvd player connected to a 500A that has had audio work correctly?

Thanks

Dave

I have a 500A with a Philips DVP5965K DVD Player connected via HDMI.

Connection was simple. Only setting required was on DVD Player- Under Audio Setup, set Digital Audio Out to PCM Only. 5900 manual mentions similar settings on Page 30, ie ALL or PCM. Make sure you have PCM selected.

yes I can get it running in PCM mode ok, the problem is that also outputs PCM via the coax digital output which is not desirable for running into an AVR, as you dont get full dd/dts

should have mentioned that in the original post sorry

I don't have an AVR and so can't test the 5965K further.

Last thought, what version of firmware does your 5900 have?

Philips website has Version 27 available for it.

i have v27 on, which is a lot slower than v26. it also has locked up totally a few times.

other weird things it does it it randomly wont play discs automatically. You insert a disc, and it says loadinig then says TITLE but is at the philips logo. You then have to press play to make it start playing the disc.

Weird. I think it may be because it doesnt have an onboard dd/dts decoder so the signal sent in non-PCM mode is still an encoded stream. Either that or its a lemon.
