diesel
Hi all Just wanted to share my experience with my Harmony 525 remote. Hopefully will be of use to some. My 525 began warning me of low battery life about a week ago after 4 months of faithful service since brand new. Unfortunatley I was away for a long weekend and when I returned the LCD was completely blank. I put in some new batteries, the LCD lit up and stayed lit displaying a message "Harmony Safe Mode" I couldn't get anything to operate and the backlight just stayed on with this message. I searced this and other forums but no luck. Called the Harmony Support line and got the following resolution... 1. Remove batteries 2. Press and hold "2" and connect to PC with USB 3. After a few seconds a message of "upgrade success" will display, release "2" button 4. Download firmware and install batteries 5. Update remote with your settings Must be some kind of a reboot of the system, but worked a treat. Needless to say I will ensure I change the batteries as soon as it starts to warn of low battery life to avoid this in the future. Thanks to ermione for the following instructions for the 1000i 1. Remove the battery 2. Press and hold the "mute" button down and connect to PC with USB cable 3. After a few seconds a message of "upgrade success" or "update required" will display, release "mute" button but keep the usb cable plugged in 4. Open Harmony software and select "update the remote". The firmware will download automatically and when it has all finished and when the software says it is okay to disconnect the remote from the usb, put the battery back in. Don't know what happened...the 525 was working fine this morning but this afternoon it was no longer responding. KOAZ
525 owners, How long should the batteries last on the 525. Just bought one and want to know your thoughts. Also which AA batteries are probably the best to use. koaz Edited June 1, 2009 by KOAZ
mwd
Depends on how much you use it and how long you have the backlight on for. I get 4 months or more with any alkalines from supermarkets or from places like Sams Warehouse, not much in it any alkaline should get around 3 months. I get an extra month from when it starts the warning message. I have not had it crash yet though ( Using the 360 model and a 569 ). diesel
I use DSE rechargeable AAA's in my old 525 and get about 3 months with each charge
Snoopy8
I use Jaycar's batteries that cost just over 60 cents each and they last between 3 and 4 months. Been using the 525 for more than 2 years and have yet to see "safe mode". Thank you Diesel for posting this.

ermione
Glad it helped 2.5 years after I had the issue... Hello All, I just want to say a big thank-you to diesel for his post on how he fixed up his harmony 525 remote. Although I didn't have his model, I was able to reset/fix/resurrect, what ever you want to call it, my virtually dead Harmony 1000i with a bit of tweeking based on his guidelines. My remote would only flash the blue backlight when I inserted the battery, that was about it. If I kept the battery in, it would show nothing. No lights or anything to show there was any life in it at all. It would only go into safe mode if the battery was taken out and it was hooked up to the pc. Other than the safe mode screen, nothing else would work. The 1000i only has numbers on the screen and that was blank so I just messed around with holding down different keys and found that if I took out the battery, held down the mute button continuously while plugging in the usb cable that was already in the pc, I was able to download firmware and get my remote up and running again You don't know how happy it made me. So Diesel, thanks, thanks and more thanks for your post. You're a legend! Here's the step by step for reviving a dead logitech harmony 1000i 1. Thanks once more diesel. couldn't have worked this out without ya!

diesel
Found this good reference site whilst trying to sort out issues with my 785. Harmony Remote FAQ, Misunderstandings, and Tips ATM, I'm having an issue with my Harmony 785 stuck in the slideshow setting. I have reinstalled the remote FW via Safe Mode, tried the rebooting from safe mode, and still no luck. I rang Logitech support this morning and they advised I needed to charge my battery for at least 3-4 hours. That obviously did nothing. I'm gonna call them back tomorrow to see what they advise now...
