Hi folks,

My 880 just died.No power, even on the charging cradle its just dead.

I assume 12 month warranty only so replacement is out of the question as its about 15 months old or should I say young.Have not had much luck with this remote first the cradle was replaced with the well documented charging problem now this.

I should be thinking of something else given the problems but the kids like the Harmony and they know how to use it.BTW I had the Chamelion all in one previously and that was a serious piece of.

My quetion is is it worth buying one of the cheap Harmony remotes like the 520/525 or is it a dissapointment after the 880?

That's what I'd do with kids in toe, also, the batteries seem to be lasting months in these units. The 525 has the coloured buttons helful if you have a STB.

Heaps FS on eBay...

I have the 659 which was the model b4 520. It was a second at that. And it has been great batteries last for ages and i find b&w screen clearer that the coluor LCD on 880. Can complain at what some people have been paying? But that new 1000 gets me in..... and i will be in the US next week!

Going from an 880 to a 520/525 you may lose some functionality depending on how complex your setup/customisation was on the 880, but I find the 525 does exactly what I want perfectly. I bought the 525 because my 4 and a half year old boys would be using it and wasn't sure how it would cope....very well so far

Regardless of twelve months warranty I would contact Logitech and at least see what they say - it shouldn't fail completely after 15 months and there is no harm in trying.

Yeah i would def try this. Remind them of the replacement cradle and argue you really didnt have 12 mths fair use from it.

Considering the low price and typical battery life, I reckon the 525 is quite adequate for most family home entertainment situations. Mine does every activity possible with a 5 unit home entertainment setup. Battery life is in the order of months - without the added hassle of a charger fault taking your unit out of service - and range-wise, it would probably change channels on your neighbour's TV

As nice as rechargable electronics and cradles are, they can be somewhat of a nuisance when you feel obliged to always carefully place the phone, camera, remote or carving knife into its receptacle near a powerpoint rather than just plonk it down where you're sitting. Every few months the 525 gives fair warning it'd like a new set of AAA's sometime in the next week or so - small expense and no big deal.

I'd also suggest contacting Logitech before buying a new one, however. I was quite surprised they are considering locally replacing my slightly faulty (fails to wake properly to the first press of the day) 3 month old 525 despite it being bought overseas. Despite this hiccup, it's the best remote I've ever had.

I'll be selling my Logitech Harmony 885, since I've now got the 1000i.

The 885 (not a typo - see here) is still in its packaging since I bought it a few months ago. Stickers etc still on the screen... 100% perfect, just not in the box (as it was sent to me that way).

Does the 885 fit the battery cradle OK?.

How much Gino?.

Thanks all.

THe 525 sounds like the go.

All comments are positive and I found the charging cradle a bind anyways.

Went to my local officeworks but they only have the 520 .

Is there any diff between the 520 and the 525?

Harmony website has no details of either model.

I have the 659 and recently purchased a 525 for my parents. I found that the series 5xx models aren't anywhere near as comfortable to hold as the more rounded/contoured 659. It sounds like a minor thing but in reality it's not. A comfortable grip makes a big difference when using the remote.

Thanks

The 525 with the coloured buttons will do for my foxtel/pana/toppy setup.

Will get one on eBay as Officeworks only seem to have the 520 in stock.

I have foxtel and the colour screen of the 785 is definitely worth the extra cash. I use the screen to display logos of my favourite foxtel channels so when anyone wants to choose a channel they can do so by looking at the logos and clicking the button next to it. The other family members have found this to be a huge plus.

No charging issues so far with my 785

Got a 785 a couple of months ago and couln't be happier. Migrated from a 768.

The four coloured buttons are great for Foxtel, and I think the Topfield owners find them handy as well.

They are although you can create the same 4 functions/buttons on a page of the LCD. I have dupicated them on the LCD, but labeled them according to their Toppy ad-jump function on my setup.

Hi Guys,

I did not have to buy a new remote after all.Harmony replaced it even though it was out of warranty and even couriered it to my place.Only took one call. Thanks to those who suggested I try this.

Now thats what I call good old fashioned service.

Well they have probably got a customer for life now.Which reminds me those Logitech wireless keyboards and mice certainly look cool...........
