Blu Ray Is Not Dvd

Recommended Posts

It was bad enough when I saw the sign in JB saying 'The future of DVD is here' above their Blu Ray demo setup.

But now the journos are getting it wrong as well:

http://australianit.news.com.au/articles/0...Enbv%5E,00.html

THE adoption of high-definition technology by Australian television broadcasters is key to the success of the new Blu-ray DVD format, companies pushing the format say.

The alliance of technology and entertainment groups behind the new DVD standard - which promises crisper high definition pictures and greater storage capacity - formally announced the Blu-ray brand to the Australian market yesterday.

The launch marks what many anticipate will be a long struggle for market share between the Sony-led Blu-ray camp and the HD DVD standard, which is backed by Toshiba, Microsoft, Intel and NEC.

FFS, Blu Ray has absolutely nothing to do with DVD.

DVD is a registered trademark of the DVD group.

I know its asking a lot, but journos should at least be required to try and get their facts close to correct before posting these crap advertisements stories.

Andrew.

Without upsetting the people on the forums who are true Aussies, I personally think the standard of journalism in this country is terrible. But then, I think its more or less the same everywhere really.

well you only have to look at the fact that the presenters ambulance chasers hacks that wok on such pieces of drivel as ACA or TT call themselves journalists.

Andrew.

Yet another this HD DVD could do to end the war - revoke DVD licencing from all BD players and actively litigate against all claims from the BD group that include reference to it being a DVD successor.

To be honest, between that and supporting studios only releasing dual DVD/HD DVD discs, the HD DVD camp could end this war in their favour tomorrow.

Disclaimer: Not a anti BD pro HD DVD post, just expressing something that could be done to end this war on the consumer.

Gee, that's a bit generous, the last half of his career he was as tabloid and sensationalist as they come. Anyone remember the phone call to the seige incident (and the Frontline episode inspired by it)?

Lowest point in journalism. Best episode of anything ever.

Of course Blu-ray has something to do with DVD, its look like its the replacement. As far as consumers are concerned, DVD = movie playing thing that replaced their VHS.

and guess what.. VHS wasn't a registered trademark of the DVD group.

Have a tissue and compose yourself!

The idiots truly are out in force today eh Andrew?

If people honestly think that HD-DVD or Blu Rinse are gonna replace DVD in this country anytime soon, they are grossly mistaken.

It's more work keeping up with the 20 odd threads started on the same topic (all quoting the same media article), each with their own reisdent troll, for the purposes of propaganda rather than intelligent discussion, than it is doing my actual job today. :P

Its harder work keeping up with you two posting ya bastards, stop typing so damn quick

The BR fanbois would love me to stop posting, but that will happen under two conditions:-

1) They stop posting stupid childish propaganda

2) They stop starting thread after thread of useless rethreaded news.

Sorry momaw, but I had too.

If I'd tacked a comment onto one of the existing threads it would have got lost.

I was actually trying make a point about the misrepresentation of Blu Ray as somehow being a new format of DVD.

Andrew.

Correct or not I think without the marketing machine making the reference to DVD the average consumer (the people they want to suck into the next 'must have' format) wouldn't understand anyway, DVD has had the fastest uptake of any consumer device and has very high recognition, if they don't make these kinds of comments the average consumer just won't get it, at the moment it's all very much marketing hype, accuracy of claims or terminology wouldn't be too high on the agenda

So I'm an idiot now? very nice Mark. Regardless of whether you think it will win, do you support the original contention that Blu-ray has nothing to do with DVD?

Daniel.

Blu Rinse, like HD-DVD, is based on the technology that made DVD a reality. However, to call it DVD-related is unfair to the format.

To many emotions and since I assume we are all working while trying to keep up with this, to many off the cuff comments attacking people we should not be. In our haste to work, keep up and contribute, the abruptness of our posts is really adding to this "heat".

Now there is a high def title I want. Heat.

Lets all chill and save the flames for the obvious trolls and keep the those really interesting in a conversation out of the cross fire.

Ironically a movie that would come to both formats! Would please everybody.
