2 Channel System

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of putting together a modest second system in the bedroom. Looking to base it on a Squeezebox (lossless FLAC) into an integrated amp. Dont have the speakers yet (I know they are the most important).

But in my first research into integrated amps, it seems they dont have any video capabilities? Is this right? I was hoping on at least switching the bedroom TV through the amp in order to use the new speakers instead of the TV speakers.

I dont need HT bypass as this will always only be a 2 channel system. Budget for the integrated amp is up to $1,500 or so.

Also, do they generally have a separate sub for 2.1 output?

Final question, given they seem to have only RCA connections, I'll be using the DAC in the Squeezebox, which is good but not outstanding. Does this limit the benefit I'll get from a mid range amp as opposed to one at sub $1,000.

Sorry for the confusion....any thoughts?

yes 2ch amps typically dont do video switching. that is one of the benefits no video circuits internally to interfere with the audio side. could jsut run all yoru video through the tv. Can route audio throug hthe tv as well some TVs have an audio out that you can output to the amp. that way whatever yoru watchign audio from that goes from tv to amp.

for 2.1 try look at an integrated that has pre-outs. That way can run audio out the integrated to drive a sub.

If you look at the nad, rotel, cambridge audio units you should find some nice integrateds in the $1000-$1500 mark. If the analog output of the queeze box is good but not outstanding as you put it then there might jsut be so far you can go with it. you can always add an outboard dac but they cost $1000 upwards.

re 2ch integrated worth looking second hand via ebay etc, always some nice units that come up.

eg have a look at this a3.2 integrated. this unit will be bloody sensational for under $1000 and anythign you buy new upto $2-$3000 will not touch it.

alternatively theres also this unit from arcam

my pick for pure 2ch would be the mf. And the beauty with this amp is it will take you through for many years and later on you could even run it with top sources and speakers and it will do a beautitfull job with those as well.

Thanks for that input, much appreciated. I must admit I hadnt really considered used, and never had much luck on ebay. The other end of the spectrum is just to run the Squeezebox into powered speakers and use the TV speakers for TV. These things have many more inputs than I need in this system.

Thanks again.
