What Should I Buy?

Recommended Posts

Being pretty new to LCD TV's, I am looking for any advice anyone may have that would help me in purchasing a new LCD. I am looking for something around 40" or 46" that is true HD and has a decent amount of inputs (hopefully at least 3 or 4). I like the look of the Bravia and the Samsung LA40F71BX but dont really know if either of these are any good or if there is something better out there for the money.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Terry

The Sony seems pretty highly regarded on this Forum. The Samsung is essentially the same panel with different electronics - minus a built in HD tuner. Sharp have also just released their new 1080p LCDs, so with more competition, you should be able to pick up the 46" for $4500 now if not very soon

I recently picked up a Samsung 46 inch for $4100 which i am really happy with. It does 1080P over component which i think a lot of others dont do ie the Bravia? This is very handy as my XBOX 360 looks awesome running @ 1080P and it upscales DVD's aswell....and makes them look great. Last night i watched the covenant on DVD and zoomed in the picture until it fitted the screen completely, and it still looked awesome! Also it will do 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA out of the box, and over HDMI with a firmware update.

I looked at the Schaub Lorenz VMD4200PHF MK2 at the 'Big Picture People'. This is the set with 2 HDMI inputs. It retails for $3999. The MK1 set without HDMI retails for $500 less. Flipping through the HD broadcasts of Chs 2, 7, 9, 10 looks pretty good. I also put in the DVD 'The Matrix', and picture looks also pretty good.
