Hi!

my IQ playback has been skipping for the last few days but most noticably today. I'll be playing back a program and it will just skip and I'll miss from 10 seconds to 40 seconds of the program.

Any idea on what could be causing it and what I could do to fix it.

I've tried resetting the box, and my signal strength on Cable etc is:

9 dBmV - 4 bars

1.28E-7 BER - 6 bars

Transport Stream: 0000

9 dBmV - 4 bars

1.28E-7 BER - 6 bars

Both show Locked.

Ernie

You do put the IQ into standby mode when you are not using it???

The IQ will only do disk maintenance when its in standby mode.

If his hard disk is accumulating errors then it needs to be replaced. File system fragmentation should not result in skipping during playback. A typical program at worst on Foxtel needs 4Mbit/sec. Any hard disk / file system that can't produce 4Mbit/sec even with amazingly heavy fragmentation isn't particularly good.

Hi!

Thanks for all the replies. I shall try the standby tonight - but no, usually I don't put it in standby. I've had it 12 months or more and this is the first problem all of a sudden on most IQ recorded programs.

But I watched an OnDemand program just an hour ago and it played fine, so my thinking is it may have only been on programmes recorded after the download of the OnDemand programs on Wednesday night.

I shall try and watch a program recorded on IQ before Wednesday and see if it skips.

Thanks again

Ernie

My parents IQ on satellite never skips anything.

My own IQ on Optus Cable occassionally skips, more on channels 7 & 10.

When we first got the box, it not only skipped all the time, if you were watching live the screen would pause on a program for 10 - 40 seconds. Changing channel quickly up & back would get the show going again.

I reset the box, and it's been working well since. Very occassional missed second.
