visions
Hi all, I have a DNTV Live card and I record Foxtel through the analog input on the card. I have connected it all up with the s-video and done some test recordings with WinDVR. The quality is nothing special though - is this due to the software or the fact that the card is not a dedicated analog capture card? At some stage down the track I will invest in a proper analog capture card (any recommendations are welcome in this thread) but for now how can I achieve the best results with my current setup? Also ideally I would like a program that can do proper scheduling. By this I mean something that can turn on and turn off the pc. WinDVR has scheduling but can't control the pc's power. rosco99
Hi all,I have a DNTV Live card and I record Foxtel through the analog input on the card. Try Power cinema. I use it with my DNTV live card to record Austar and am very pleased with result.
AndrewWilliams
The only decent software I've found for watching analogue is DScaler but unfortunately it can't record at the same time and has poor recording in general. Virtual VCR is one of the very few analogue recording programs that have a method for eliminating audio sync issues by resampling the audio on the fly. It is excellent for recording but has terrible playback while recording. The only decent method for analogue recording/playback/timeshifting is to use a hardware encoding card like a Hauppauge PVR series with something like Windows Media Center 2005. stav1503561097
WIN DVR work quite well.
murrayt
I think the general concensus was that Dscaler was the best for capturing analog video. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with a DNTL card. But Dscaler does not encode to Mpeg on the fly. Not sure if these other apps do so.
Alfred Smee
You have probably learned by now just how disappointing software MPEG capture is. No matter how fast your hardware there will always be issues with quality and audio sync. My advice is forget this method and get a dedicated analogue capture card that does hardware compression. I have been using a Hauppauge PVR250 with great success over the last 18 months or so. I use it mainly for recording Foxtel. A quick edit (if required) with VideoRedo to remove ads and it's ready for DVD authoring. I have also used it to convert VHS tapes to DVD and the results are brilliant. visions
Do you think the Hauppage pvr-150 would be good enough? I checked it out on their website and it says it is has a mpeg hardware decoder.
