tonygib
Was it just me (ABC HD in Adelaide) or did others notice that the Season final of The West Wing on Monday night didn't have any watermark. It just goes to show what effect it has, I didn't notice it missing at all, it wasn't till I had a quick look back on the recording that I then saw it wasn't there, but during, without any bright white blob in the corner, I was too busy actually watching the show, in HD, with no ads to notice that the watermark was missing. I'd like to hope that its a sign of the times a changing, but I bet it was just some tech glitch or work experience kid that forgot to push the "Place crap on screen" button. Anyway, the final Season 7 starts on Saturday (yes, they have moved the program around).
ozdoc
Yep. Noticed that also (Perth) during the show. What a cracker of an episode though. Perhaps it is a ABC trend, given they didn't have a watermark the night before with Planet Earth.

Santa1503559644
Don't forget The West Wing is on the ABC this Saturday Night. Yep, but back to single eps now, I believe. No more "The West Wing continues". BTW: The bloody West Wing ... it makes it so hard for other US drama (Heroes, etc) to stand a snowflake's chance when people mention quality! tonygib
Perhaps it is a ABC trend, given they didn't have a watermark the night before with Planet Earth. hmm, so maybe there is hope. The bloody West Wing ... it makes it so hard for other US drama (Heroes, etc) to stand a snowflake's chance when people mention quality! What, O'my'God, is there something that Santa actually likes, I though you had problems with The West Wing as well On a side note, I've been watching MASH before the news most nights (DVD's of course, not on 7 after the butcher job they do on it) and its so cool seeing Alan Alda some 25 years apart. Pitty if it will just be single eps now, double eps back to back really kept driving it forward, not that I don't already know who wins the white house race and who leaked about the 'other' space shuttle, but still... If want a few shows that get the Santa Seal of Approval (if you turn your head on its side and squint, it kinda looks like the Presidential Seal ): *The Wire *The Sopranos *The West Wing (at times) *Six Feet Under (at times) *The Shield *Curb

I don't get it, to me this show is so contrived, I can't see any semblance to Bush Junior. On this show the president seems to care about everyday Americans, am I missing something??? Or is this like a view into a Utopian America???
ozdoc
Yep, but back to single eps now, I believe. No more "The West Wing continues". The TV guide has West Wing on Saturday from 9.30 pm to 10.55 pm - that would be two eps back to back.
Neon Kitten
I don't get it, to me this show is so contrived, I can't see any semblance to Bush Junior. Of course not; it's fiction, not a docu-drama. On this show the president seems to care about everyday Americans, am I missing something??? Or is this like a view into a Utopian America??? You got it in one. The show's creator is a died-in-the-wool Democrat.

And, as far as the pres goes ... in the WW version, the Democrats didn't lose power. No George Dubya. They could have written it for a Republican Pres (Bush), but the moralistic stuff would have to be ditched, replaced with a wierd mix of evil Machiavellian politics and vaudvillian comedy. SimonB1503560073
Concur with most said here. Last night was one of the best episodes I have seen. Sit on the edge of the seat stuff it was. The weird thing is, I hear about political stuff on the news now and I think "Yeah, yeah, wonder if it was like on The West Wing". Simon.... I can't believe the yanks will elect someone called "Obama" to the presidency! Osama - Pronounced "Oh, Summer!" .... The best time of the year. Joy to the world! Obama - Pronounced "Oh, Bummer!" .... The ****'s just hit the fan! How many people would read the ballot and go "Mavis, Mavis! Osama's on the ballot! Must not vote for the terrorist!" BTW: Rudi "the only mayor to have been handed a ticket to the presidency*" nominated today. __________________________________ *On the day GWB was handed his "4 extra years" ticket. Neon Kitten
I can't believe the yanks will elect someone called "Obama" to the presidency! It's been said before, and I'm sure it'll keep being said - which really shows just how patently stupid the media is in the US (and, by association, in Australia). As Jon Stewart pointed out a few weeks ago on The Daily Show, some media outlets have even used the name "Obama" to describe a certain terrorist...! Accidental? Yeah, surrrre it was... Clinton did too. Both had actual intelligence. The main problem in the US is twofold: voluntary voting, and the exclusion of a vast section of the population from the right to vote at all. Of course there are other variables, but with the power of the media the edge is always given to the "one of us" candidate. Not just the guy who is dumber, but the one whose scriptwriters craft their image as Reagan or Bush, and their opponents as "French intellectuals" ... or "the Professor" (to use a local example). There are many "main problems" in the US. The power of Rupert. The power of the fundamentalist so-called Christians. The poverty & Lawn Order exemptions. The rigging of voting. The rigging of the judiciary....

_moby_
is season 7 the final season?? Yep, it's the final season. Got the DVD from UK last year and I think it works better than Season 6 with the switches between the presidential campaign and the Bartlett administration in the White House. In many ways I'm glad it finished when it did without going down hill. I’d probably rate this as the best TV series I’ve watched. Amazing to think that originally Martin Sheen was only supposed to appear in the first couple of episodes and then the show was going to focus on the staff – especially the character of Sam, as Rob Lowe was the star. The whole concept of a leader with intelligence goes against the GWB/JWH Joe Sixpack concept.People prefer someone "as dumb as me". Just look at the trouble that evil, "French thinker" Kerry got into running against "Durrr, my brain hurts" GWB! They made a bit of a play on this in the show as part of the re-election campaign in season 4 or 5 where the Republican candidate was really trying to demonise Bartlett for being an intellectual. Of course in the world of the West Wing this didn't work as Toby convinced Bartlett to play up his smarts and there was a great scene in the debate where he totally belittled his opponent. In some ways I thought this was a bit of a metaphor for the show itself. It never managed to attract huge prime time audiences because you actually need to focus and think about it a bit too much for the average viewer it would appear.
