Nbn Armidale Pushed Back? What The?

Recommended Posts

NBN March 2007? then only a couple of weeks ago we are told it was to be Oct-Dec 2007, now we are told it is planned for 2008, this is totally beyond reason, every other station is on air in digital in Tamworth & Armidale, NBN should lose their broadcast rights til they provide we the viewers in this region with same services they offer just about everywhere else except west of the great divide.

Before you go off at me about MT Dowe etc Left Behind, I'm thinking of us all not just Armidale/Tamworth

This forum with all due respect is totally useless as far as advocating for the viewers, we are fooling ourselves, the commercial networks just don't care, they obviously ignore these sites, we need to broaden our campaign, we need to coordinate amongst ourselves, and get out a high profile public blitz and NAME and SHAME these greedy self interest commercial networks, stop just talking about possible actions, lets get on with it. We need tens of thousands to join the campaign, not just we in these forums.

Public petitions, newspapers, radio, local businesses and chambers of commerce (no viewers, no advertising), politicians, but we must stop the rhetoric and act, and act loud and long til we get some justice. We need to tell the networks and the government we are angry, very angry and we just aint gonna take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you help me gather the , I'll personally deliver to the networks headquarters and to the responsible minister in Canberra, I mean it lets get moving.

Once again I dunno what difference it's going to make because sadly it's an issues that in the grand scale of things is not life & death & the average person would'nt give a rats anyway.

EG,,,,My Partner dosn't care that I can receive Hi-Def Television & Half the time will watch the Annalog transmission anyway, She Laughs at me when I rant about the lack of Local Digital Serivces :D (All she wan't to know is how to turn the TV on)

The only people who would kick up a stink would be people who like me are verry anil about their TV Reception. How many houses do you walk in & See Dodgy TV Recepion  You ask then about it and they say It's fine, I Can watch it. Digital TV Conversion is not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things and not something that is going to sway the results of an election or send a media powerhouse broke.

In Saying that, I'd love to try :P I Think the only way to get noticed would be a mass petition to Media Watch or a TV current affairs program and sell it as the double standard of commincations in Australia.

(Metro vs Regional type deal)

Looks like NBN are taking a full year off from installing digital anywhere.

You need to do 4 things.

1. take note of all local ads on NBN, go to their business and advise they change to another commercial.

2. make a public petition, walk around and get signatures from others, then take it to NBN's office to prove just how many people want digital

3. Make the MP's aware of the situation.

4. complain to ACMA

Doesn't look like things will be getting any better in Bendigo New England anytime soon

NBN to lose Soul?

Television

The Australian is reporting that Washington H. Soul Pattinson’s publicly listed subsidiary SP Telemedia is having talks about the possible sell-off of Northern New South Wales Nine Network affiliate NBN Television.

WHSP chairman Robert Milner told Sky News Australia that free-to-air television was flat and that it would remain that way.

”I don’t think we are going to see the same growth as before,” he said.

Asked if NBN TV was on the market, he said: “Everything is for sale at the right price. We will look at offers.

“We have been in discussions with a few people,” Mr Millner said.

As mentioned earlier in TSR, a potential suitor is WIN Corporation, who has long been considered a potential buyer of the company. Late last month, WIN’s Andrew Gordon resigned from the board of SP Telemedia, leaving the door wide open for a potential takeover bid.

If that happens, we can say goodbye to 4Mb/s on the HD channel. So NW NSW won't even experience the excellent NBN HD channel.

NBN is under the Soul Patison Banner.

Also under that banner is of course the Chemists, KOOEE phone company, SOUL internet and mobile, SPT communications, one80 digital post

4sale2buy, AEON consulting(Have to check on this one?) and most likely alot of others im not aware of.

It is rather Absurd that NBN will not Upgrade to DigitalTV, I'm Surprised that channel 9 isn't forcing them to do it.

It is also strange that SOUL seems to be helping this region they have afterall been the ones to allow access to ADSL2+ to the northwest region so it

doesn't Seem that Soul Patinson is at fault.

It seems to me the problem lies with NBN individually rather then the Soul Patinson Group. Surprisingly enough at about the same time i was considering this

i saw an NBN TV crew in Tamworth. To be quite honest the equipment they were using frankly didn't even look like it was able to film in color let alone Digital

Maybe they are having money problems at NBN? Considering the age of their gear my hopes of seing NBN in DigitalHD anytime soon have been cut to shreds,

They couldn't possibly expect to keep up in the Digital TV AD market using ancient equipment could they?

The fact that NBN appears to have stopped further digital TV roll-outs adds further ammunition to the current rumours that NBN is being sold.

It was reported in the 'Newcastle Herald' newspaper yesterday that it may now be only 'a matter of days' before NBN has a new owner.

And I think Soul Pattinson must have figured 'why waste our time and money upgrading to digital if we are going to sell NBN' (given that there is no immediate financial benefit to them).

The most likely buyer is WIN Television.

PBL (Nine) are also said to be interested.

The new buyer would have to finish the remaining roll-outs (at their expense).

If WIN buys NBN, the fact that Mt Cenn Cruaich (Coonabarabran) is due on air in the next few months should give you some hope.. I also think WIN might feed Northern NSW out of Wollongong and 'scale back' the Newcastle operations, so this might make it possible to feed Dowe etc. via Cenn Cruaich.

Personally, in any case, I think Nine Network programs will be in digital in the North West/New England well before 2009, EVEN IF NBN isn't sold.

Too late. We never attempt to watch it now the cricket season is over. PRIME has much better local news, in digital. When I can be bothered to turn on the old VCR to look at NBN, there isn't a single show worth watching.

Is Prime News in North West/New England in widescreen (16:9) , or is 4:3

ps. shame we lost Prime News here in Newcastle back in 2001. I thought it was a better bulletin than NBN's too.

4:3

Yep - only 4:3 but I'm happy with it as for our region (armidale) they actually do news stories about local events. I figure they must be about the last regional station left that does it. NBN news is OK as far as it goes, but a lot of the time they lead with international or national stories that are more than covered by the Nine news that follows. Prime at least leave all that stuff to the delayed Seven news that comes after the regional show.

NBN has an 'all-in-1' local/national/international bulletin produced in Newcastle for all of Northern NSW nightly at six.

There are 2 'windows' in the bulletin for each of the six local regions in Northern NSW to provide local news to each region.

The total running time of the 2 windows including weather is about 13 minutes.

NBN is the only regional on the eastern seaboard that does this.

WIN Television (Nine network in Southern NSW, regional VIC & QLD) and Seven Queensland all adopt the same 30 min local news at 6pm and 6.30pm national/international bulletin from Syd/Melb/Bris that Prime uses.

Prime also broadcasts 4 other local news bulletins - in Coffs Harbour/Lismore, Orange/Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Albury/Wodonga.

PBL have bought NBN - I guess we'll wait for the smoke to clear to see whether these notorious tightwads are going to finish the DTV rollout or beg for more time from the feds. (my guess is the latter).

They didn't pay an awful lot for it, we should have shaken the tin around the district and nationalised it :-)

The sale price of $250 mil was well in excess of the $170 mil to $200 mil estimated sale price that media analysts were predicting.

WIN bought Nine Perth for a comparatively princely $163 mil.

As for what this means for digital TV roll-out, I can't say I see it happening real soon as PBL will have a restructure of NBN as its priority.

I know what it meant for me. The purchase of a learning remote so I can use the $15 Hi Fi VCR to watch television. Thankfully a bit of misconfiguration of the old antenna spaghetti was causing PRIME VHF problems for us, not poor signal area as I thought it might be, so at least we can flick around all the channels again. Of course, they still aren't showing anything worthwhile (austar is bollocks, but it's better than the endless CSI shows...)

It's just a grand conspiracy to sell Logitech Harmony remotes (if you have lots of equipment, get one - they are awesome)
