JKramer
Hi, And need to buy a LCD TV that will be also used with computer (Mac) for web browsing, email, etc. I have room with viewing distance 2.5-3M. Reading this forum I understood that optimal size of the screen will be 40", is that correct? Then I read that with 40" there is no point of getting 1080p unit because you won't see the difference until you get 50". Question is: when TV used with computer will I see the difference on 1080p and maybe it worth getting 40" 1080p ?

mello yello
Yes I followed the rules and made 10 posts in "red" thread What about all the other non red text threads you posted in? You didnt do it right..you have to alternate between threads You have to post in one thread...then move to the other red thread....if you are not waiting long enough then please dont just post rubbish in legitimate threads. The world isnt going to collapse because you cant ask your question when you want to ask it...and we shouldnt have to endure your rubbish posts just because you cant wait. Next step will be all those outside of red text posts will get reported as OT to that thread..deleted and then you will just have to start again. Please be patient guys and stick to the red text threads....or just post anything relevant to an established thread....it doesnt have to be rocket science

Reading this forum I understood that optimal size of the screen will be 40", is that correct? Web browsing, email, etc. involves reading small-letter text, whereas viewing distance vs screen size are suggested for watching motion picture. You should not use one to determine for the other. Computer screens as small as 19" use 1024 resolution, nothing wrong with that. However for TV screens the general recommendation is 1080 resolution in 50" & below is nice to have but not worth the large amount of extra $$ currently one has to pay for. I figured that if the message hadnt got through in plain English maybe Chinglish might have helped. We are getting a little tiresome of uselesss 10 post count tests and such appearing in other threads. The great majority of people can read and follow the "guidelines" , ( not rules). These guidelines are there for the enjoyment of the forum for everyone. The importance or relevance of a question does not justify encroaching our forum etiquete to ask it. All we ask is patience if you feel it necessary to post a question, otherwise you could feel free to browse the numerous stickys and older threads that would have actually answered this question had the OP exercised some patience......while you wait. Question is: when TV used with computer will I see the difference on 1080p and maybe it worth getting 40" 1080p ? What will the main use be? If it's TV, then buy for that. If you buy a 42" plasma, then you'll get (approx) 1024 x 768 resolution which is fine for computering. That's the equivalent of a 15" computer monitor, which we all had for years and did OK with. My 50" can do 1366 x 768, and Frontrow looks pretty damn good on it at 3.5m. I haven't tried much other computery stuff with it because I don't have a keyboard in the loungeroom yet (I want a wireless one with a trackpad, please). Then I read that with 40" there is no point of getting 1080p unit because you won't see the difference until you get 50". That seems to be the prevailing wisdom. 50" or bigger, which means more $$. Vicious circle, really.

complectus
I figured that if the message hadnt got through in plain English maybe Chinglish might have helped. That's just disgusting. You need racism counselling. Seriously... What is the problem with new members starting new topics? It seems to me that the guidelines cause more problems than they solve. I imagine the 10 post "guideline" is to prevent spam threads. With officious thread-nazi types like you patrolling the boards they would last all of 5 minutes. Given the ease with which offending threads could be erased, is it really worth making some people jump through hoops before they are allowed to contribute? If people are bothering you with meaningless posts to get their count up, who really is to blame?
mello yello
Ok without turning this into a mass debate...I could start a new thread to discuss this issue and we can continue it there if you like...however Now you are beginning to sound silly with "racism counselling" ....seriously The problem is.... they are queue jumping by forcing their way to the top of a post count by posting in random threads that were created to discuss a specific topic. Its not totally fair on those that are doing the right thing and wait the required time...and now with the very polite reminders in those threads its becoming a bit..well Picture this.....thread titled "Spam you missed a spot" discusses and alerts about Blog spam..(that is a previously unnoticed clogging up of the forums blog space with a whole members blog space filled with spam links)....ok new user posts in there and shows up as a new message meaning somebody has something to say or add. You click "Pratt1"s message only to read all he had to say is "test" ...then Pratt2 comes along and does the same thing..and a whole number of people click the link....only to confirm that "bump" is spelled with a p Pretty soon every new member mistakenly thinks that is how to get their post count up quickly..all because of a couple of "Pratts".Its a bit like crying "Wolf" Who do I blame? ...I blame their parents By the way in your maiden post you proclaimed you didnt "speak geekspeak"...you sure picked it up quickly Mello the Thread Doctor

If you think you are helping by flaming people like this you have totally lost the plot. Its bad enough that 6 years after digital tv has been in australia, the majority of people still dont use it, understand its benifits, and in many cases dont even know it exists, but here are people who are interested, have come here for support and you just flame them. A polite PM would be much more appropriate than you filling up whole threads with flames, so that the threads can be for questions and answers. Judging by how new a member you are and how many posts you've mande you obvoiusly have nothing better to do thats for sure.

LCD you can't go past a Veiwsonic N3260w It features S/AV in, HDTV 1&2, A/V out, HDMI analogue audio, PC audio in. Antenna in, PC in, HDMI in. I have not seen these display units in the usual white goods retail stores, but they can be had from the computer suppliers, go to www.staticice.com. for best deal. I have used my display at 3.5 metres which exhibits good resolution supports up to 1280x1024 @ 60Hz and up to 832x624 non interlaced for Macintosh. I run my entertainment system and computing through a Micro PC and find this panel has no discernable lines. Video card used for display is a Innovision 3D GeForce 6200. Also sports passable stand alone sound at 10watts RMS a side (stereo) supported by SRS. Operation user friendly. Price around $1100. Larger sizes up to 40"

Awww shucks now your just fishing for a complement. Ill agree with that statement as being plausible as a general observation Care to offer evidence of your assumptions before I push for a formal public apology? It seems you have implied a few things in this thread. mr compactus and you are also intent on continuing to flame an issue that is resolved, with language that is fairly over the top and unproportionate to the issue. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ps..I will continue to address the issue of new members posting random post count posts in threads that were not designated for that purpose regardless of your disapproval of my intentions or my methods. -------------------------------------------------------
