Southern Cross Ten Movies

Recommended Posts

G'day,

This is a tricky one to describe, but we'll give it a shot.

I'm in an area where the Shepparton and Bendigo versions of Southern Cross Ten can be recieved. I've noticed tonight that the 8:30pm Movie "Spy Game" on the Bendigo version is showing black bars top and bottom of screen, giving the widescreen effect on analog TV. But the Shepparton version isnt showing the movie in the widescreen mode I just mentioned.

Would the Bendigo SC Ten be doing this because of digital TV? I think I've read somewhere else that Shepparton's digital TV is already up and running, so why wouldn't Shepparton's SC Ten be showing the Movie in a widescreen format on analog TV? Some of the text on the Shepparton version is getting cut off, while Bendigo dont have any worries

Any suggestions are appreciated

Do you mean that on analogue in Bendigo, it is full screen, but in Shepparton on analogue it is letterboxed (black bars top and bottom)?

How does it look on digital?

Nah, Bendigo has the Black bars on top and bottom. And there's no STB at the place I'm visiting at the moment. (And locally, there's no digital transmissions on air yet)

In other words, there's a small Ten watermark on Bendigo's version, and a big watermark on Shepparton's version, if that helps

The Shepparton Tx might not be picking up the AFD flag descriptor telling it to switch to 14:9 widescreen with the black bars on analog. We had a similar problem with PRIME analog a few months ago. PRIME Taree wasn't letterboxing but PRIME Coffs Harbour was.

Sounds like it

Checking other shows that have been on today, even some selected ads and the Beach Cricket were all supposed to be screened in 14:9, the score was half cut off with only the G showing from ENG, then the score and overs...etc

Let's just hope Ten dont adopt this for AFL games, or the scores will be cut off from Goulburn Valley viewers
