samjohnson
Has anyone tried playing a Region A title in an Australian Region B player? There have been rumours that it has been sold region free for BD while the range of local titles is small.

If you do a search theres already a couple of threads on the topic. The pana is not region free on blu-ray. there was some comment it might be region free on DVD but not somethign any one owning the player has confirmed. If I was buyign a blu-ray player right now the pana is really the only realistic option though expensive.

Yes I have, and no, some Region A disks won't play in it, Gone in 60 Seconds and Fantastic 4, to name two I tried. If it had worked I would have bought it on the spot. (Note that was in Dec, with the old firmware, perhaps the new 1.4 FW changes this, but as I haven't read it anywhere I verymuch doubt it.) I spoke with the Panasonic sales rep whilst in the shop and he confirmed the BD10 is DVD region free, well can be made so with a few remote button presses. M. M. If that is true, Did you ask him what the codes are? I will be very intrested if he can make blu-ray region free,I think we all will.

Wouldn't it be better to wait for a next generation Panasonic as this model is now getting a little dated and firmware updates appear to have stalled. at least a new model may come with bug fixes and be cheaper ? I was told by a saleman at HN are having a very hard time in getting rid of the panasonic blu-ray players people are not ready for this new format(But I think it was price more, he did not really want to admit to that).I asked one of the saleman there also if they were region free he replied the same by saying pressing the buttons and then I told him most importantly will it make blu-ray region free and his answer was I don't know, We've never really tried it. I think theres a difference between a salesman saying somthing especially a HN one and not being sure about it all and an owner/user having actualy acheived whats beign talked about here. I'm personally yet to read anyone making a blu-ray region free. For DVDs again I've heard a lot of talk about pressing buttons and the like but nothing from any users actually saying it is region free and can play dvds from around the world. I'm personally not suprised theyre havign difficualty selling the thing given the price here locally plus the absolute dearth of local discs to play on the unit - keeping in mind importing discs for the player is not a great option given the player has region locking enforced. I'm with CM on this one, if considering this player wait till it drops in price or yes maybe till a 2nd gen comes out which is cheaper and with all the required features as standard.
