Isf Calibration On Pioneer 507

Recommended Posts

Had my Pio 507 ISF calibrated last night, and am absolutely wrapped in the outcome. The colours are so much deeper and more natural looking, the picture is vivid without being sharp and the blacks are superb. I put on 5th element afterwards and was picking out facial features on the characters I had never seen before. Dark scenes are so much better to watch now. The difference in before/after is very noticable, definately worth doing to get the most out of your system.

The technician walked me through every step of the process, showing me what he was doing and explaining why he was doing it. He was at my place for 4 hours and even had a look at my sound system and tested it and gave me some pointers to get the best I could out of it free of charge.

I will be recieving a full report from him in the next day or so, which shows before and after graphs on all the parameters he calibrated, also has the settings so if I accidently wipe them or change them I can reset.

The guys name is Andrew and his business is called Home Theatre Engineering. www.hometheatreengineering.com

I thoroughly recommend him to anyone who is thinking of getting their Panel/DLP ISF calibrated. His conduct is first class, and his knowledge is astounding. He is a fully qualified ISF trained Dealer and a top bloke too.

Wow - that IS service - his website shows he is based in Shropshire, England..

How much did he charge to travel down under? :P

Actually, just found it on his website..

Travel

Travel is charged from Telford in Shropshire at the rate of 45p per mile (return journey).

How many miles from Shropshire to Australia? At 45 pence per mile, thats one expensive calibration..:D

Regards

David

I'm in Perth and Andrew is based here, but I believe a member from here who lives in Vic has spoken to Andrew found out Andrew will be over there in about 6 weeks.

Costs vary depending on the effort required but his minimum fee to calibrate a panel is $250 (which is what I paid). Very reasonable for the improvement in picture quality.

Cheers

Amazing. Finally, a response from someone based in Perth. I have a funny feeling I have tried to contact him before, but will certainly try again.

Edit: Yes, when I clicked on the email address on the website, I had a distinct recollection of doing it before. The formatting is incorrect, so you have to edit the address. Maybe I will get a reply this time??? Will try the phone numbers on Monday.

Andrew is back at my place atm trying to improve on the picture because he wasn't 100% happy. (Even though I thought the picture was sensational). He's not charging me for this extra work he just wants to have a perfect picture. I can't recomend this guy enough honestly.

Hmmm, this is getting dodgier and dodgier:

"The following message to <enquiries@hometheatreengineering.com> was undeliverable.

The reason for the problem:

5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'unknown user'"

BrettH, how did you get in touch with this mythical ISF certified calibrator in Perth?

Simon....

Just had a look at the enquiry email on his website. It has a comma instead of a full stop infront of the com so that is probably why you got the error. I'll let him know about that.

cheers

Brett

so what are your settings now brett?

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to apologise to you all.

Brett H called me to let me know my email link wasn't working.

My website is a bit of a mess as I haven't had time to address it. It is in bad need of some attention, I knocked it up quickly and keep meaning to get back to it but work keeps getting in the way.

It turns out my email address was "flawed" so just to set the record straight. . . .

I have fixed that link now so it should work just fine.

The "mythical calibrator" :-)

I have the reports but not sure if its worth putting them up. A lot of the calibration work is done outside of the colour/brightness/sharpness/contrast/tint settings so they won't help all that much if you just change those on your panel.

To give you an idea, Andrew brought my color temps down from above 8000 Kelvin to around the 6500 Kelvin which makes a big difference in picture quality but is something we can't/shouldn't try and do ourselves.

Cheers

Just for the record.. using someone elses ISF settings on your display really is NOT a good idea. All displays vary and require different individual calibrations - not to mention the environmental viewing factors and source equipment variation between systems.

Thats why manufactruers dont have an ISF setting that is NOT adjustable in their devices.

Pony up the $ and get it calibrated - its a 5% investment to make sure your other 95% is looking its best

Brett, give me some credit  I found the comma and changed it. Still got a bounce. Maybe the email isn't setup properly, who knows? Anyway, I haven't had a chance to call him yet, will do so soon.

Cheers,

great to read you had some sucess there re a clibration of your plasma. is it possible at all you could maybe post the before and after graphs. not really wanting any settings or anything but keen ot see the improvment that can be brought with a calibration.

Ok, under the knowledge that they are specific to my panel and that 'results may vary for individuals', and that I'm not asked to take them down, here are the results minus my personal details and the settings.

And just for reference, I was using the default 'Movie' setting mode and the calibration was able to bring the sharpness right down and subtle changes in brightness, contrast, colour and tint which gave a much MUCH better picture..

Brett,

Did he set up day & night settings on your panel?

Also, how many hours did you clock up before calibrating?

Cheers
