Guest SGID
Gday, Am trying to get some help regarding the 2 above products. Have purchased a 81cm LG LCD tv with built in HD tuner (LG32LC2D) and also have a LG DVD/HDD 80gb recorder (RH1777). Am having trouble recording the digital channel ABC2 (and every other digital channel) Can record the normal channels in analogue, however cannot record them in digital. When I press 'input' on the remote to go through to AV1 the channels are there, but only in analogue. Have spoken to LG, girl didnt seem confident in her answers, however she did state 'I cant record digital as it is for viewing only', does that sound right to you guys ? Have no other problems with it, however just wish to record ABC2 on the HDD, but cannot even pick it up. Hope someone can help me.

Your recorder will only record SD, not the digital HD used in the TV. So they have chosen to have the output as analog only, probably to save dollars as analog tuners are very cheap. But it does sound strange. ABC2 is only on digital. Are you sure that output is analog? John

I cant even pick up ABC2, which is what I want to record.

Only a couple of brands of these recorders have digital tuners at the moment but more are expected this year. Your choice is for a STB feed to the recorder or (better IMO) an inexpensive PVR like the Wintal or clones. John

John Ahh bugger, thought that would be the case. Thanks. Looks like I'll have to get a set-top box then.
