what should one pay for this unit.

thanx

Shouldn't your question be, Will the opportunity ever come along to pay for one of these units?

That being said, if they live up to expectation (and I am happy 5000PVRt owner of over 2 years now), then I'd own one. However in the longgggggg wait I ended up with an LG HD PVR.

Happy....mostly. The inability to timer record two things at once is a problem (manual recording of a 2nd channel is no problem). One thing I will say however is that outside of this, it's a reliable unit in that it always fires off a record as programmed and delivers an outstanding picture. All the other HD PVRs have proven hit and miss in the firing off always department. The Topfield holds much promise because the 5000 is a solid performer in this and all other areas.

You won't be recording from analog inputs on any HD PVR or (AFAIK) any PVR fullstop. They are strictly designed for recording DTV only, since they have no MPEG2 encoder capability, only a MPEG2 decoder. A PVR simply stores the digital stream direct off the air with no processing so there is no encoding required. It makes them a very simple device in reality, hence why there are so many yum-cha ones about now.
