Talking about SED, I guess you guys have seen the stories about "Canon buys Toshiba stake in SED" / "Toshiba Sells Its Stake in SED To Canon".

They're probably trying to get people to buy high-end plasmas now rather than wait for SED which is a bit of a catchcry for some people (i.e. "I'm waiting for SED before I buy a HDTV...").

They'd only need to point at the press releases saying that we won't see SED for 5 years

As scary as it may be, some people still think that it's "smarter" to wait 5 years for SED before spending a large sum of money, rather than buying a plasma now. This is particularly true of older people who don't really get the fact that technological progress is no longer going to be like the CRT era, where you have one technology remaining dominant for decades. Within 5 years of SED something else will come along to trump it. But as I say, some people still believe there will be a 'pinnacle' of HDTV tech which we'll reach, at which point you can buy a TV and hold on to it for a dozen years or more.
