Skid_MacMarx
For HDMI transmission, I gather you can choose either "bitstream" ie. the format stays intact regardless if its DTS, Dolby or SACD or the PS3 converts the signal to LPCM onboard.. Does anyone know if the PCM signal through the onboard converter is at a set rate eg. 96khz or does it come out at the rate the PCM signal was before it was decoded.. What would be the PCM rate from a SACD signal say? It has been reported that the HDMI signal only outputs at 5.1 And I have been told that the CD playback only comes through the MultiAV analog output I have also not been able to ascertain if the SACD stereo audio through the Multi AV analog out comes from a straight DSD to Analog conversion or from a DSD to PCM to analog conversion

Obviously there is a lot of PS3 users there who will be able to answer the questions you ask. While the PS3 does have HDMI 1.3 onboard, i gues its at SOny's discretion as to what it can output. Many of the PCM signals are only recorded at 48/24 as that is apparently what the movie masters are recorded at so I guess that's all you'll be getting out of the player. I believe sacd is around the 192/24 mark and has a bitrate of about 20mb.
Skid_MacMarx
It appears from the AVS and other forums at this time the SACD signal is converted to PCM... Although like you said the sonics are much higher than conventional CD and DVD....
