Grundig 6124 Dvd Player

Recommended Posts

Hi straycat.

As far as Iknow there is no HDCP on the DVI ports of STB's.

The fact that you're getting a picture with DVI from your STB>LCD confirms this.

Unsure about your poor PQ, but it could be with your equipment setup, poor cables or reception.

You stated your Acer's DVI as HDCP compliant.

Therefore you should have no problems Upscaling from a DVD player using a HDMI>DVI cable.

Cheers

Vinny.

Thanks Vinny. I was unsure whether "DVI-D(HDCP)" meant the DVI port was HDCP compliant, or HDCP specific (ie: Only works with HDCP input)

But I'm a bit confused here. You confirmed that the Acer terminal spec "DVI-D(HDCP)" means the input port is HDCP compliant. That's good news.

But you also said: "As far as Iknow there is no HDCP on the DVI ports of STB's. The fact that you're getting a picture with DVI from your STB>LCD confirms this." If the TV DVI port is HDCP compliant, then how does this confirm that there is no HDCP on STB DVI ports?

Doesn't really matter, I'm pleased to learn, anyway, that the Acer is HDCP compliant.

If noone else replies here that they've experienced 'purple shadow' syndrome from their 2164, I'll go ahead and get one when the price drops again. From DSE of course, so I can get the refund if I have any problems.

....

I'm no expert in this straycat.... but I have a Philips DVP5965 HDMI upscaling dvd player and it will not work with the DVI on my Teac 4220 plasma. It actually gives me a message of "non compliant".

I took this dvd player to a friends place who has an Acer LCD with DVI and it worked perfectly.

A Strong 5400 HD digital box also worked fine with the DVI on the Acer.

Someone may offer a better explanation.

Hi all, I returned my unit because the conflict between the remote codes for the DVD player and the projector (Sanyo Z4) was to a big a pill to swallow. However, I had no problems what so ever with the unit for the week or so that I had it. I grabbed the LG DV-298H that DSE had for $149 (It's black which worked for me!) and am happy all round.

Picked one of these up from DSE for $129 - seems to be the going rate. Also picked up a 3m madcats HDMI cable form Target for $35.

Plugged it into a slimfit Samsung's HDMI slot and watched some of SWEP1 @ 1080i and I could notice the difference from 576 immediately.

Played some SD DivX from a DVD and it worked fine.

Played some other DixX files from an SD memory card and it also worked fine.

So far, so good as far as performance and functionallity goes.

BTW - this link works for region unlock;

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/grundig-gdp-6124/8299

And the player plays DivX at whatever HDMI res is selected from 576/720p/1080i.

Coaxial out also works a treat (as I guess so to do the optical and 5.1 chaneel rca plugs that the player sports, though I have not tested them).

I have found a fault with this player - as others have reported the infa red/remote has conflicts with other devices.

For me the Grundig remote does not interfer with any others but the standby button remote from my DSE HDSTB DTR-8000 turns the Grundig off!

IT is not a major interference as I never need to control both at the same time but if I notice any other conflicts that do annoy me I'll take it back to DSE.
