When I was at the Good Guys, I looked at their computer, which showed cost price of $3650 or so.

Interesting! So the <$4000 with 5 year warranty dream COULD come to fruition. If all the stars align etc. The extended warranty is basically cash for jam for these guys, so it is a possibility I suppose.

Thanks Templer, gives me an idea of what I can expect in my hagglefest

Wish me luck!

P.S. I hadn't tried good guys, will call/pop in tomorrow! Thanks

EDIT: By the way, what is sony's dead pixel policy? I'm having a hard time dredging it up...

EDIT 2: Was also wondering if you could post the receipt, or pm it to me LCD Mike. I think if I take your $3700 into sony central, they'll probably come to the party! I could pm you, due to my member restrictions.

Sony's pixel policy is 0.01%, which works out to be about 210 pixels. Way too many to have defected for swapout.

Good Guys and several other places said that they would swapout if several pixels in the same area. Bing Lee said they probably wouldnt even honour a pixel defect unless it was major. JB claimed they would swapout for one pixel, but wouldnt put it in writing. Ill go back to the salesperson and speak to him directly if there is a prob.

Sure hope there is no problem. Delivery is 12 hours from now, probably should goto bed soon so there is less time having to wait. Ill be very unhappy if delivery is late, or its dropped off, set it up and find a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen.

Think I gotta go get a DVI - HDMI adapter in the morn. Dont want to do PC output through VGA... doubt that the Bravia even supports 1920x1080 through VGA.

Sorry x_infax. Saw you got a 46X. I picked up a 40X and a Panasonic DMR-ex85 today from HN at the MLC centre in Sydney prices were:

40X $3700

5yr warranty $350

DMR-ex85 $799

5yr warranty $70

Total $4919

Went looking for a Bravia 40X today.

HN, BingLEE, GG and Sony Central.

Best price I got was $4050 + 179 for 5yrs warrranty.

Noticed you got the 40X for $3700 at HN MLC, plan to go there tomorrow.

Do you have a contact name there.

I had a revelation today, and called the factory outlet. They said they didn't have any in at the moment, but would be getting some display models/factory seconds in soon and would call me. He said he'd sold a 46" X series for $4200 today, and he thinks the last 40" went for $3400!!!

I'm wondering, what are things to look out for if I'm getting a factory second? Things to avoid so to speak? Or is it just a bad idea in general? $600 is a LOT of money!

if you can start it up and get into a service menu to check that hours that would be cool.

Since I can't still start a new topic....

How is watching fast sports on the X series? In particular Foxtel - English Premier League. I would probably think HD Sport from Channel 9 etc is ok but what is Foxtel like for ghosting on this TV?

I'm yet to see HD Sport on Channel 9. The cricket is upscales SD, but still the quality isn't too bad. I don't know about the winter sports (since I just recently got my 46X).

Foxtel is general worse than SD since they overcompress most channel. The main exception is the Showtime 1/2 channels and Box office, which are close to DVD quality. With a bit of tuning, you can make foxtel look acceptable, but you can only do some much with a bad source.

As for "ghosting" (I assume you mean motion blur), I don't really notice any, but there are some that can. Some bluring is actually caused by the processing in the X series, it is best to turn off any noise reduction as this caused noticable bluring.

Thanks, I was hoping it was going to be nearly flawless. It is the only thing keeping me in the plasma world at the moment. Although the new Philips has a 3ms response so that might be a better choice.

Try and check them out in the shops, and adjust the settings (if they'll let you). I've never seen a display even close to having a nice picture out of the box, and very few stores do anything more than plug in the displays when setting them up.

Hi All,

Just joined up and for some reason can't start a new thread, so please excuse if I bung a few questions in here.

Please feel free to relocate this post if I've transgressed.

I'm looking at a decent monitor and blu-ray for work (video design engineers) and taking a long hard look at the Bravia X series. (I wanted 1920 x 1080, 6mS, 10-bit colour and HDMI but such a beast with all these features doesn't seem to exist).

What I'm not sure about is the number of bits supported. Is it triple 8-bit DACs or 10-bit DACs or what? I've been though all their documentation, but can't find anything in the specifications.

Bought the 40X from HN MLC today. Should be delivered tues/wed this week.

By chance I ended up with the same sales guy as you, although I hadn't seen your post before leaving.

After a little bit of haggling i got him down to 4k flat with 5yrs.

Finally pushed him to 3.9k for an immediate purchase and got it.

So I'm happy, broke the psychological 4k barrier.

Thx LCD Mike

Would never have thought to go to MLC if it wasn't for your post.

Now I need to pick up a new DD player.

Looking at the OPPO 981HD, too early for Blueray and HDDVD ........

LCD Mike, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

I called Harvey Norman (the same harvey norman who wouldn't budge from $4000 for a display model WITHOUT extended warranty) and told them I had the copy of a receipt where it was bought for $4021 with ext warranty, and the SAME guy said "sure, bring it in".

I don't know where you learnt to haggle, but you've just elevated someone very mediocre into getting your kind of savings!

Thanks man

P.S. Have to wait for my new credit card before I buy it though, will update when I'm drooling at it in my living room.:D:P

Placed an order for a 40x last weekend. HN @ Bell St. Preston, Melbourne

$4250 for the unit with 4-Year extended warranty. Made a 10% deposit, coming in hopefully end of the week.

Judging from the posts above, not the lowest price you could get... guess I should have haggled harder or atleast ask for 5 years. Anyway, I'm going to see if it can get it lower when I pick it up.

I've asked around Sydney on the 46X, without any haggling, I know they are willing to do it for around $5200 (no extended warranty). Has anyone broken the psychological brarrier of $5K or closer to $5K. Because some people are getting the 40X for just under $4k, that makes the extra 6" for the 46X over an extra $1K and I'm just trying to justify that to myself

You would have 5 years anyway. 1 year manufacturers warranty, then the 4 years extended taking place afterwards. Dont think its worth going over the 5 years all up.

Oh thanks for the clarification. I asked for "extended warranty" and didn't confirm what exactly it was. When I looked at the invoice certificate it read "4 years".

The sales guy tried to rob me off with a $100 -> $50 power surge thingy and a $200 -> 150+ monster DVI-HDMI cable. "No thanks" I said, Jay-Car FTW.. sheez..

Hi everyone, been searching for a good buy on the 46X and really appreciate this site to assist in getting the best deal. This is my first post.

We were offered the 46X for $5k at Good Guys in Campbelltown.

This did not include extended warranty.

I was too excited and forgot to ask.

Hi guys

I have posted this on another bravia thread and did not know how to link so sorry to all who have already read this but I felt it would be most relevant on this particular thread

Thought I would pass on my experiences of buying an X series last week in Perth - for all those out west who may be interested.

I have bought the 40 X series (September build) but I have no issues (yet) with backlight bleeding or any cloudness. I have been impressed with the picture and I am pleased with my purchase.

These are the prices I was quoted which may help

JB $4100 Warranty $369 - no stock

Good Guys $4500 Warranty $500 no stock

HN $3900 warranty 4300 - no stock

Rick Hart $4000 Warranty $300

Retravision $4600 Warranty $700 !!!!!!!!!!!

Sony Central $4500 Warranty $345

I went with Rick Hart as opposed to HN as they had stock and could be delivered the following day. The most outragous comment was made by the salesman at Retravision when I questioned him on why the were so expensive "were not going to go out of business to get a sale" well they will if they dont get sales in the first place. They also had the highest ticketed price of $5400, the others ranged from $4300 at HN to £4999

Hope this helps people get a better deal

cheers

Den

Hi

How good is the internal hd tuner in the V and X series? Are they the same tuners? Would I be able to bypass the internal hd tuner with one of my own, not that I'm thinking of doing this but just curious.

Rgds

Patrick

I was looking at the 46 inch V series last week. I was actually buying a Sony SVR-HD700 PVR. I watched the tennis and cricket with the inbuilt HD tuner and then asked the sales guy to plug in the HD700. Thye HD700 was a liitle clearer , brighter and more natural looking.

Or it could be the PQ settings are different for the DVB and the input for the HD700. I know with my plasma, I had to set up each input differently to get the best picture

Deciding between Sony X series and the Samsung F series.

Both 40" inch 1080P LCD TV.

Cheapest quotes I got was.

Samsung F - $2900

Sony X - $3900

The Samsung is tempting because it 1K cheaper.

But the Sony look way better, In term of design.

Still deciding if I should purchase it now or wait till the PS3 is released in March. Hopefully if I wait till then the prices of these panels will drop.

Yeah, I was in a Samsung store and asked them to play a few movies for me. They played a Blu Ray sample movie and then another DVD movie and I wasn't too impressed.

The Sony is not that expensive after you factor in buying a decent HD set top box for the Samsung since the Samsung does not include the HD set top box whereas the Sony does.

wow, I havent been shopping for tv's for a month since I was disappointed at the price range for 1080p screens, but $2900 seems awesome. Thats a F series samsung 40" 1080p right? -

http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/lcdtv/la40f71b.asp

Might have to go shopping again since thats more my price range  And I would say wait until march(its not long) and get the samsung if your mainly watching hd/dvd and ps3. And these are pretty much first gen 1080p screens so I dont like the idea of paying too much, pay less now and buy a 2nd or 3rd gen 1080p later on instead of the sony brand name for the extra 1k.

Sony 52X at GG Nunawading (Melb) today for $7550. Is that a good price?

If anyone can post a receipt for the KDL52X2000 under $8k, I'd very much appreciate it. My sister's got her heart set on one and is willing to drop ten grand on it!!

Dell have just released their current pricing cycle on Sony Bravia X's with the KDL40X2000 at $4099 delivered.

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/p...;l=en&s=dhs

The good thing about getting it through Dell is it's easier to swing it as a business expense. What do you all think of that price?

(46X is $5299 also)

What a shame they don't know what they are selling. From your link:

Integrated High Definition Tuner

720P HD Resolution

Latest Digital Connectivity HDMI Input x2, Component In x3, S-Video in x2, Composite in x3

Incidentally, the Dell price is valid to 08/02/07. It will be interesting to see on Friday morning if the price changes for their next pricing 'cycle', as is their normal practice.
