matty_k
Love the picture of the old and new one! Just a tad bigger than your old sub . Heard one of these in action while watching Star Trek and it was bloody impressive, look forward to hearing your thoughts on how it sounds in action. com59841503560232
DD-18 Part 2 Intro Since the first part of my review for this sub was a bit of a frustrating roller coaster ride, this post is just about pure listening pleasure. I live in an apartment so it's bigger than I really needed, but couldn't resist at the price. In all honesty this has been the best bang for buck addition to my HT setup, the improvement has been phenomenal, even though placement is not ideal (back corner see pic) between the sub and odyssey this has been overcome. The bass just fills the room and you can't pinpoint the origin, quite often I get up and go and put my hand on it to check it's still cranking as you'd swear the bass was coming from the front or to the side My room and eqpt room 1 room 2 room 3 room 4 Listening Tests Bluray movies WOW Transformers Saving Private Ryan David Foster Concert this seemed a good place to start and the one I used initially was "War of the Worlds" couple of good scenes for bass, one in the early stages where they come out of the ground and later when the army battle with them on the hill. There are many good scenes but these 2 stand out. "Transformers" is another standout for bass especially in the final battle in the street. "Saving Private Ryan" the beach scene was just non stop boom boom, my wife actually jumped a couple of times. The "David Foster Concert" has amazing PQ and AQ it was amazing watching the band and being able to associate different bass instruments. The bass just comes and goes and washes over you, it's very crisp and doesn't linger just bang and then gone or if it's a rumble you need make sure the windows are securely closed so they don't shake. SACD & DVD-A Hotel California Rumours Seal Celine Dion George Benson Dire Straits Police John Mayer I probably listen to music the majority of the time and usually in 5.1, since adding this sub I now usually just listen in 2.1 and I'm really enjoying it. All discs offered an improved listening experience wether it be the police cranking it out or a very subtle George Benson. I do a lot of work from home and usually have music in the background but since I have been using this setup I keep stopping to enjoy the music, hence not much work gets done. APPLETV 1 This has been a recent addition, previously I used express to connect my lossless audio to my denon. I absolutely love this and can't understand why I didn't buy one ages ago. I have now ripped all my concert dvd's to it and also all my lossless audio. All the dvd's have their original DD or DTS audio tracks. The ease of use coupled with the convenience makes listening a pleasure. Listening to lossless in 2.1 is amazing and again something I've just recently started enjoying. The quality of the source is important though I've had some high bit rate flac files sound crap All bass comes from the sub the front speakers are set to small and crossover at 100hz. In concluding I've obviously avoided technical terms because I don't understand them….lol Edited September 14, 2010 by com5984
Guest walterharris
Can anyone tell me what I would expect to hear differently with a more recent model sub like the Polk PSW-505 as compared to my 12 yr old Velodyne VA-1512? I know the Velodyne was rated decently back then, but Im trying to figure out whether the playing field has changed much in the last 12 years or if I should be happy with what Ive got. FWIW, I use this setup with Polk Monitor 70s for mains for HT and music. Thanks.

betty boop
Tech does keep moving on, but the vela with a 15 inch and 12 inch driver is still I'd imagine a pretty decent thing. Polk not particularly known for their subs, and the model mentioned is quite a base model sub which couldn't imagine be much to write home about. Without knowing the condition if the old vela, or even comparing the two hard really for anyone to say. But I'd say good chance probably better to stick with the old velodyne. If wanting ti upgrade a current model 12 or 15 inch velo likely be a good chide as with other subs from other makers eg the legend kurlo, a sub that goes pretty flat to 20hz, is clean and tight, beautifully built and with good waf. A good local choice if on a budget.

When I turn the sub on it reverts back to 80hz. On my sub.Is there a way to set and forget. Also my volume reverts back to a different volume too. It’s a bit of a hassle turning it on by the back of the sub while having a new remote in your hand. Something weird out that. Hope your well Al

I have a Logitech universal remote(ultimate) touch.. The Logitech software finds the Velodyne sub but recognises it as an amp in the display. The Logitech software has all the correct commands but it has never worked for me. I even tried pairing the new remote that Velodyne sent me with the Logitech remote and software and no go on that also. The new remote works only sometimes as some of the buttons have to be pressed half a dozen times before it registers with the sub. I am going to get the IR sensor checked on the sub to rule that out. I am pretty sure that’s ok. I personally don’t know of anyone who has operated the DD+ subs with a universal remote as every time I have tried through Logitech it’s failed.

drummerboy01
I have confirmed that my IR sensor has gone on my DD+ sub and all this time I was thinking it was my remote control. On my journey of getting to the bottom of the problem, I came across a bargain on eBay for this DD+ accessory kit for $150.00. In the kit I received a mic with the stand plus all the cables,cd’s, gloves and the remote which I needed to confirm ir problem.
