Gav Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) For those of you who are looking to try some Valve rolling here is a reletivly new line of valves from Shuguang, they are dearer than the normal range of Shuguang but are according to reviews very good. Review from Enjoy the Music .com on the KT88-Z http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0509/shuguang_treasure_series_6CA7_kt88.htm Shuguang Tresure series there may be others available but I know they do these 300B-Z CV181-Z 6Ca7-Z 2A3C-Z KT88-Z KT66-Z I have been scouring the net lately looking for some replacement KT88 valves for M88Q's , In the end I decided not to go the way of NOS KT88's as they are to expensive and you dont realy know what you are getting unless you buy from a reputable dealer so my thoughts lent towards current production new valves, where I stumbled on the new Shuguangs, so I have sourced some from eBay and have taken the plunge and am going to try the KT88-Z, hopefully they will arrive in good nick with out any added charges from any local authorities I got mine from this eBayer http://shop.ebay.com.au/joechenliang/m.html Edited August 14, 2009 by Gav

Chickenism Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Was talking to Earle about these only yesterday and will be checking on the internet buzz over the next few months to see how these shape up; my interest is with the CV181-Z pre-amp valve. Was doing a quick spot of Googling and came across these: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accstube&1253037084 Blue glass prototypes of the CV181. Not cheap, but they look great...

Sounds nice. Are you thinking of trying the 6Ca7-Z I think it is a EL34 equivelent, I could be wrong though.
NT3 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks Gav for putting this up. Lovely looking valves, real art. Wish I had the money:D
Once was an audiophile Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Sounds nice. Are you thinking of trying the 6Ca7-Z I think it is a EL34 equivelent, I could be wrong though. i am thinking very hard as i need 8 el34 it will not be cheap. depends how generous kevin rudd is with my tax return.
tuyen Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 $230US a pair for the EL34. Not a cheap exercise just to see how they sound like. I'd say stick to your current tubes kajak. The sonic characteristics of your setup now is pretty much spot on already (in my books anyway)

Gav Posted August 15, 2009 Author Posted August 15, 2009 make sure they are the real thing not copies!!!!!! Well I hope they are the real deal, My only real evidence is that plenty have baught from where I am getting them and his feedback is 100% and most of the coments are giving nothing but praise for the Tubes and the seller.
Once was an audiophile Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 make sure they r the real thing'HOW good question they like to copy in china the other important thing is how long will the tubes last.will they last as long as the old mullard type or amprex.
