HN at Aspley quoted me $999 over the phone yesterday, and then immediately dropped to $900 when I asked if it was their best price. Haven't bought one yet - I'm holding off until I find out if my Thomson is going to be "fixed" under warranty.

Hi...My advice to you is Don't keep on hurting yourself trying to get your Thompson fixed....even when it is fixed, if it can be, it will be a far inferior product and suitable for a kids or second use...My Thompson was returned almost immediately and my local store recalled all other thompsons they could find, because of the complaint rate...well, that is what I gathered from conversations...I saw no documented proof......do yourself a favour and enjoy yourself like we all do...Get a Toppy.Oh the other option is to return the Product if they do not fix it...that is your legal and moral right....

Agreed fossil. I don't want it fixed - I'd much rather a refund and I walk away with my cash and Thomson can keep their pile of circuitry. However, the distributor would not agree to a refund and has asked for the box to be returned for repairs and I don't know if there's anything I can do about it. It's left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I'm waiting to hear what they decide (re: refund or repair or whatever else) before I decide whether or not to start making waves.

that is so true fossil, as i work in electrical retail, i see all too often that polite customers get treated second rate by companies, whereas a customer who is rather rude and childish will get the problem solved quick smart. it is just wrong. many smaller retailers have to abide by the returns policy of the manufacturer, if they say repair, then it has to be repaired, or the store wears the cost of the refund with no help from the supplier. In my experience, if a customer complains direct to the manufacturer (and i mean complain, complain, complain) and leave the retailer out of it, the manufacturer will bend over backwards to help.

Either way, the retailer should help out, but remember the retailer did not manufacture the product, and in this day and age of ridiculously low profit percentages, there is less and less retailers can absorb in the sake of customer service.

The views expressed in this post are mine, and mine only, they are not representative of the views of my employer

by the way, forget everything else, toppys rule

I used to see that in hospitality so much. The annoying whining customers get upgrades whilst the polite customers get crap.

Now I'm in the cops and the annoying whining customers get refused bail.

Hi Guys,

I'm in Brisbane and looking to buy a (120Gb) Toppy. Whats the best deals you've been able to get??

I got my 120Gb Toppy for $875 from Harvey Norman Indooroopilly about 1 month ago

They told me I was the absolute and very last one to get it at that price.... But a few days later I was told that Harvey Norman Brisbane City (never even knew there was one in the city centre) was able to do it for $850!!!

I'm sure they'll do that price again with a little persuasion. ;-)

... down from normal retail of $1450 !!!

yeah right, normal after the "extra" $200 store mark-up!

I was under the impression that the $1100 was the RRP for the 120GB (basically the same as the 80GB because lets face it, the 120 drive would be maybe $25 more).

Now if thats all really true, then that store should be reported.

Just goes to show that RRP bears no actual resemblance to the actual cost plus markup of a product. RRP is simply a perceived value of an item. Any item. Technology, food, real estate. I think we will only see the true cost plus a percentage on the toppy when the HD version is released. I am stll very happy with the $850/120gb I paid 6 weeks ago. $850 was not the cheapest price I have seen these go for, but it was definately a price I was willng to pay. Perceived value. $1100 was too much.

It would be intersting to see what the RRP would be if the were stocked at KMART or TARGET instead of HN and specialty stores.
