-Spud- Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Channel Nine's footage of the Australian Open in that demo loop looks breathtaking. Is this something we can all look forward to come January?

ijd Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Don't splash out $25k on an HD display in the expectation that it will! Going by Nine's recent track record, if the AusOpen is broadcast by Nine, it is more likely to be similar low picture quality to their AFL broadcasts (or worse!).

-Spud- Posted November 2, 2004 Author Posted November 2, 2004 The Australian Open is actually on 4+3 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? Since when??
gib_oz Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Also, the tennis footage on the Nine HD loop is of the US Open Final in NY in 2002, NOT the Aust Open
Vagabond1503559575 Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 The Australian Open is actually on 4+3 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? Since when?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since forever. And it's been 4:3 since forever.

And it's been 4:3 since forever. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh I see what you mean now . At first I did think you meant that it wasn't 16:9 but I've been browsing the dba boards over the past 24 hours and reading all the things wrong with channel 7's HD (or lack there of) and it set my frame of mind out of whack for a bit. You see when Champion_R stated "The Australian Open is actually on 4+3" I thought that he hated channel 7 so much that he couldn't even type the number in so he wrote 4+3 instead . Now I could be just lacking sleep here but all of a sudden I'm thinking "Channel 7 has the Australian Open!?!?!" This is what brought on the response "What? Since when?? ". Now I'm back to my first thought which is the correct thought. Yes I understand it's in 4:3 and not 16:9 . Thank God it's not on Channel 7 though. Had me holding my heart there for a bit .

Sorry to disappoint you again, but Champion (and me, and many others) refer to Seven as 'channel 4+3' or just '4+3' - because of their usual format (4:3) and their pathetic attempts at "HD". The AusOpen will therefore be on 4+3, and no doubt also 4:3.
laurie Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 but Champion (and me, and many others) refer to Seven as 'channel 4+3' or just '4+3' - My version is 16-9 cheers laurie
