Hello all,

I just joined here to let others know how I solved my dire reception problems.

I live in the CBD in a large appartment complex, so we have a shared antenna on the roof, typically I couldn't get any reception from channels 7 or 10 (in Sydney).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I read this forum as a lurker and some people had suggested to others a new antenna or an amplifier of sorts.

So I went out to Dick Smith in the city and bought a cheap amplifying antenna (Digitor MDL #6469A). It's some cheap plastic thing made in China, which didn't bode well, but as it has a 12v power pack, I thought I'd give it a go anyway - low and behold, it not only works, I can now pick up Wollongong 7 and 10 to boot.

In short, this thing provides better reception (sitting on my window sill, albeit I am on the top floor, looking west) but for $60 it has soved all my woes with the box (Panasonic HDT104A) since I bought the blasted thing over a month ago! - and typically, I only bought the damned thing to watch F1 in digital and have finally got it to work the day the F1 season is over... LOL.

Previously I could only get ABC, SBS and NINE - less than 12 TV channels in total - now I have over 50 TV channels, so I'm stoked!

Hopefully this will help others who are suffering signal/noise/reception problems.

Mario.

Good work.

Just one thing you may want to consider. The current and previous models of Panasonic STB's haven't been well received. I have heard this from many sources, have had a few returned, and have exprienced it myself. I HAD a SD TU-CT20A. SBS was right on the border. Some days good, other days bad. I swapped it for a TEAC?, and now SBS is perfect. 100% signal.

Yep, I'm using the smaller Digitor one (L4016) and it works just as good, boosting all signals to 100% and even letting me pick up some UHF digital signals too.

I made a post about it a while ago

It does VHF 20db, UHF 30db

Although it is made in China and looks rather cheap it is much improved from the model they were selling years ago (looks exactly the same as the L4016 minus the Digitor badge and RG6 coaxial, plus I've tested it and it was absolute $hit for digital)

Dunno why you would upgrade to digital just for the F1 either... the quality aint much better, it's non-widescreen and usually has a fair bit of artefacting since it's encoded live.
