techno-dumb Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 My parents have recently bought a Samsung DTB 9401F DTB and myself being the only one slightly techno-literate I have been left with the task of setting it up. I managed to get it all connected and am receiving a signal but am still having a couple of problems. Could anyone help me with the following... (1) I cannot seem to get the system to record from the VCR. Rather than explain my current set-up the following are the connections available to me: TV: Phillips 32PW4523 with (a) AV1:Y, Pb, Pr and audio and video inputs ( AV2: s-video, audio and video inputs © Monitor out socket with audio and video outputs VCR: Very old Samsung SV-30BV with Mono audio in and audio out and video in and video out DTB: Samsung DTB 9401F (a) TV Video/Audio Scart ( VCR Video/Audio Scart © Ant and Ant loop connection. (The sytem came with a TV scart connection and cable and I have a scart to RCA connector that can be set to output or input). My parents currently use the VCR more than the DVD so I have connected them on the same input using a split cable and they just switch on the one the want to use. The big problem is, as our analog signal is poor and they cannot receive stations like SBS they would really love to record from the DTB. (2) My second problem is pixillation with SBS and occaisionally on Channel Ten. We thought that it may have been aerial interference or even interference from all the input devices but have not seen any remarkable improvement. Any suggestions? (3) My last problem is really a request for advice. We are looking to purchase a further DTB for another TV in the house. Can a DTB be used for multiple TV's using the same aerial? (and if so how do I work that one out!) If you cannot can you suggest the best DTB to buy. The one purchased above came as a deal but I am not sure if it was the best one to buy. We don't want to spend heaps of money but I don't want to buy garbage either! Advanced THANKS to anyone that can help!
Donald Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Sounds like you need to describe how you have connected them. I would use the VCR Scart (Out) to the VCR (via RCAs), with the VCR still going to the TV (via the split cable with the DVD). However, when watching DTB live, you want the best quality so use the TV Scart direct to the TV (using the other AV inputs on the TV). For this connection I would also use something better than the composite (single RCA) for video, ie, the Y, Pb & Pr or the s-video input. Can't help on issue 2 but if the problem is signal strength, I wouldn't recommend splitting the one aerial between 2 STBs - I have 2 STBs of one aerial but the aerial was set up and tuned by professionals and I get great signal strength and quality (and it cost a bundle!)
techno-dumb Posted October 26, 2004 Author Posted October 26, 2004 Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure that is how I have connected them but I can't seem to get any digital images throught the VCR. My feeling is that the VCR might be too old or that it needs to be reset so I can pick up the image through the AV channel. I will keep troubleshooting and if you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks again.

techno-dumb Posted November 3, 2004 Author Posted November 3, 2004 We have solved problem two for anyone who is interested. We replaced the aerial connection (we were previously using one designed for flat cable) and seem to have resolved the pixillation issues. Despite our aerial being over 30 years old, and cable having multiple connection points we are getting a fabulous signal! I'll keep you updated on issue one!
