ozboy Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 I have a SCART to component & 2 RCA audio plugs lead (5 RCA plugs). Picture is fine yet no sound comes through. Is it possible in the software upgrade they didn't make provision for RCA audio output? Has anyone else had this problem? I know its not the TV, cause the audio on the original SCART to 3x RCA lead from Foxtel was fine. I doubt it is the lead as it is brand new.
xdZ Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 im guessin your talkin about the pace box? do u have any other products u can test if the cable is working for scart component input.
tonymy01 Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 It is a known fact (from these forums) that 99% of those SCART-5RCA cables have the audio connected to the IN rather that out. I believe the cables must be really meant for TVs with SCART-IN that support component over scart (not many!!). If the end shell can be opened then it won't be hard to change, but I think those things aren't easily pulled apart (moulded plastic). They are still good for the video, as the R,G,B lines in the scart adapter isn't directional, where as the audio definitely is. Regards
xdZ Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 ozboy: where did u purchase these cables and how much?
ZOS Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Was at a shop here in Melbourne (Frankston) and was told that a cable for what you want is not made. BUt here is three things to do on the Pace box. 1:Get the audio from the video scart 2: Get audio from digital connector 3: Use scart to 6 rca if video scart is already in use. I found last night I had no sound as the video/sound rca's where connected to an av sender. So have to either split the rca's as in option 3 or get rich quickly and go surround. Oh the other option but not easy for some is get a scart to scat lead cut one end of and add your own plugs. If only they made a componet/rgb scart to rca with audio Zos
xdZ Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 tonymy01: any help with the pins to re-wire ???? Jaycar sells a 3 x RCA Plugs to Scart Plug - 1.5M (STOCK-CODE: WQ7244). And being jaycar i guess they wont be too hard to pull apart. i know they also sell spare scart ends (unsure if the ends are male or female) but even if u do have to destory the orginal end u can fully rewire the new end. ozboy: one other option is to go scart to scart to a pass-thru box like the toppy 5000 or the pana 85 then it will component out no problem. the two suggested boxes both retail for over 1k sorry but there might be one out there cheaper i dont know.

You need SCART to 5 RCAs! Any website that details the SCART pinouts will be able to help (google is your friend, that is what I use everytime I answer a scart question on these forums), just to let you know that there is L&R audio supported in both directions on SCART. The do it yourself SCART socket and solder pins that Jaycar sells isn't really the best quality, with only steel pins (I have found connectors with the goldish pins to maintain better contact and support more removal/replacements). Regards
xdZ Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 will a scart -> 5 RCA cable work with the scart's Auto switching control (pin 8)?
tonymy01 Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 That pin is only relevant for scart-scart connections. Obviously if you are connecting YUV to a TV, then the TV isn't going to support that pin!
xdZ Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 i googled and seen someone make a RGB rca version which used the pin that told the tv which AV signal to use (composite or RGB). just thought id check http://www.rgbcube.co.uk/image010.jpg link to pic
tonymy01 Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Something sounds a bit confused there. If your TV is scart-scart connected, then your statement is correct, but connecting with RCAs to component is just not going to achieve this, as component doesn't support this signal. Sure, if your device has scart and your STB has scart, you can hookup with coax and wire like in that diagram? Regards
ozboy Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 Figured out a simple solution. Since I cannot use the SCART out for the VCR (since I have the STB set to component output) I have used a SCART to S-Video converter & just used the RCA stereo outputs to the TV. (I am using the RF line to the VCR for picture).
xdZ Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 i got a crest XL340 scart to RGB / component video and audio cable today and its directional and the signal is going the correct way but this cable doesnt output sound either. i guess u cant have sound output from scart to conponent.
