haggis663 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I have just updated the PACE firmware from Foxtel. The new firmware has changed a few things: 1) It now has an option to output to RGB/S-Video/Composite/YUV 2) The setup now gives a quick way of changing the aspect ratio and closed captions 3) The infobar has been improved.
cyril Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 About time, will be interested to see if the YUV output is succesful or not, look forward to comments back. Cheers Cyril
Damon1503559503 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 A couple of my friends are wanting this update, how is it obtained? I don't have a Pace box so I have no idea. rgds Damon
RaveRod Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 You can try the common way to update boxes: Press "back" and "select" on the STU. Wait for all lights to come up and press: "power" "up" "down" "power" on the STU. It won't work with the remote. Some other updated with this version: Software Version: 36.255.22 EPG Software Version: 1.25.1.9C Features updated: Picture Settings -> Banner Timeout Picture Settings -> Closed Captions Picture Settings -> Video Output Active -> Additional Services (currently takes you to Sky News Active) Box Office -> Movies A-Z Box Office -> New Releases
djOS Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Thats bloody annoying for me that they've added Component support as Im using an rgb-Component converter atm! The mongrels should have had in there from the beginning.
haggis663 Posted October 15, 2004 Author Posted October 15, 2004 Update: I have tested out the YUV and it works fine. The only trick was working out which YUV corresponded to which RGB input on the DSE SCART adapter.

brad2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 i called foxtel about this today and they didnt know about it. and he said it wasnt possible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i called foxtel they said there doing up date at 2am guy help me out the up date not much
laurie Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 i called foxtel about this today and they didnt know about it. and he said it wasnt possible. It is possible because the internal switch on the scart connector for component requires a firmware upgrade from Foxtel to add the extra menu it cannot come from internally in the stb!! don't forget this unit is based on the european model which is mostly RGB then again anything is possibel with the Digital Revolution cheers laurie
Peter McGrath Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 then again anything is possibel with the Digital Revolutioncheers laurie I notice that the "weather by postcode" (interactive) is now available on the Weather channel too - don't know if that was part of the upgrade, but I never noticed it before. Not that it is particularly accurate I might add
xdZ Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 brad2004: by the sounds of what they told you is that they will be updating the boxes @ 2am this evening. or you could do the manual update whenever. so goto sleep and wish that when you wake up component will be working on your pace.

djOS Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Wow, I dont know whether to be pissed off or pleased - the YUV(Component) works as well as RGB Converted to component and now theres an easy way to change the aspect ratio! still no sign of a "channel swap or flip" option tho. Now I have a 145$ RGB-Component converter doing bugger all. Wish I had of known YUV support was coming!
EvanOnTheGC Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 You can now scroll through the Infobar and see the synopsis for later programs or programs on other channels without changing the channel. In fact you can leave the synopsis page up and then scroll through channels/programs. Evan :->

It's not related to this upgrade. Evan :->
delbz Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I just applied the update (manually) and yes component video is there and it works! Let's give Foxtel some credit for this update. Yes, I know, it should have been there from day one, but they have listened and acted.

I love the fixed now/next info - tis about time Btw, for those of you wondering how to take advantage of component, you need one of these SCART to Component adaptors. The DickSmith unit is also correctly colour coded, so no guess work is required. DickSmith SCART-Component Adaptor (Catalogue # P6676)
Circuit Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 No update for the digital UEC box. Did a manual update for mine and still got the same old version. No extra options and no fix for info bar.
DannyR Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 djos, Wow, I dont know whether to be pissed off or pleased - the YUV(Component) works as well as RGB Converted to component and now theres an easy way to change the aspect ratio! still no sign of a "channel swap or flip" option tho. Now I have a 145$ RGB-Component converter doing bugger all. Wish I had of known YUV support was coming! I remember when Foxtel Digital was first released there was a information from the Foxtel technical department that this upgrade would be comming in the future and they were working with Pace to get this working as it was an unsual request as the boxes are European based. I guess they would never delay the digital launch just to inlcude component output. Anyway, yes, give them credit, I can't belive they actually managed to pull this off only 6 months into launch. The box now has a full set of possible analogue outputs. All it needs now is DVI! Haha, that'll never happen unless they launch a HD servbice in the future. I would be pissed too if I had spent $140 on the transcoder. I guess the person selling those things is also pissed! PS. Does any know if they added a channel flip function to the remote control in this upgrade? Danny.

No extra options and no fix for info bar. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The UEC box was never supposed to be in wide-spread circulation so I doubt they'll ever add any extra feats to it. they are "kuldge" & the only reason they exist at all is cause foxtel couldn't get enough boxes from PACE.
