Also; the product description says "With a 40-gigabyte (GB) hard drive that delivers up to 25 hours of recording time (this may vary depending of the broadcast program data rate)".

tonymy01 Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Those damn PVR vendors (yes, you too Topfield!) always quoted about double the real world storage, because I guess that most of the PVRs were born from a satellite or overseas PVR, where the datarates are only around 4megabit/s. Here in Aus, our SD is anywhere between about 6.5megabit/s and 8megabit/s!, so almost double satellite rates, this is both from my observation on ProjectX demuxes of recordings, viewing my bitrate graph I wrote for the Toppy (freespacebar), and according to some rough filesize vs time comparisons from collected info around the place that Ted Harper did for the Topfield (I think the comparison is in the Toppy sticky thread, well worth going and having a look for any PVR owner as it gives a good estimate about how many hours your drive is probably really going to record). 40G is just not going to cut it here in Australia. 12hours, yuk! I have a 250G drive now, and have about 5 Movies to catch up on and still about 120G free... ahh, bliss! Of course, I don't know what the max size drive supported by the Thomson is, most people gave up on purchasing those things because they were just **so** dodgy. Regards
